After restarting the car I got off the freeway ok did notice a loud blowing sound though and got to a gas station, then I disconnected and reconnected the negative battery terminal to reset the system. Since then it hasn't happened again and my car appears to be running completely fine except for one thing: when I give it a lot of gas and really try to accelerate quickly I hear that same loud blowing or sucking noise coming from the engine. I'm assuming this has to do with the turbo since it only happens if I give it a lot of gas, but I'm only guessing here. Hey man im having the same problem with my 03 gti. The light first came a couple weeks ago after there was a noticeable shift in power, light tug, feeling of a slight down shift. I preceded to drive the car home and left it parked for the night. The next day the light was off.

Some of you may recall my request for opinions on a VW Rabbit with the 2. The other day, it is reported that the car was proceeding down the interstate when the engine suddenly quit running and the tach needle went to zero. Driver reportedly shifted to neutral for an uncertain period of time, after which she re-engaged a gear. Car resumed running, but would not go in excess of 70 mph. EPC light was on. Car falls into my possession. My attempt to pull codes yields zero codes. The light has not come back on, and there are no symptoms, other than perhaps a slightly rough idle. Car drives fine. So, what would cause a complete loss of power presumed lack of ignition spark , then go away spontaneously a few seconds later? Just what I need, a diagnostic mystery on an old VW. Makes me pine for the days of the ACVW. They were simple beasts. The car ran unbelievably bad.
I am posting this as there was an incident with a VW Golf with DSG that suddenly lost power and was rear ended by a large truck and the VW driver was unfortunately killed. Very scary when on freeway or busy roads.

Should you see such a warning light, a loss of power and sluggish performance may accompany it, giving you a broad hint that something is wrong. And typically, something is wrong, but it might not be an engine problem. Instead, a variety of malfunctions or problems could trigger the EPC warning light. The EPC warning light, also known as the Electronic Power Control warning light , is a vehicle warning indicator that indicates a problem with your Vehicles throttle system. This is a computerized ignition and engine management system used in many recent Volkswagen Group vehicles. Vehicles from all of these brands are likely to have EPC. The cruise control could turn itself off, and the electronic stability control might cease functioning as well. This will severely curtail the power and give you the impression that the car is on the verge of stalling. Often the engine will continue to operate, enabling you to reach a technician for diagnosis and repairs. An EPC warning light could be an indicator of a minor problem or of a very serious problem.

These components include the gas pedal, traction control, cruise, ABS, steering system, and the throttle body. If you get the EPC light, we recommend having it repaired straight away, as many issues associated with the light coming on have to do with vital vehicular systems that keep you safe. The EPC system does this as a failsafe in order to protect the engine from permanent damage.

I had to turn the car off quickly to prevent it from burning up. I do plan to keep my Passat for another 3 or 4 years as a result of changing out fuel injectors and knock sensor. I had a a and a GTI. Throttle control sensor. Yet again the manual is very vauge about what can cause it, so I don't know whats going on. Took it to the dealer again this morning and the new diagnostic codes say to change the cam position sensor. Do you have picture? I advise u to do the same. Had a engine light I can pull off the side of the road quickly and restart my engine once with my key and the EPC light will cut off but my ESP light stays on.. Both mechanics say that the car engine is mechanically sound. I will update once solved!
Before we jump to the practical information, we will explain what the EPC warning light means. The EPC light is one of the 64 warning lights in a Volkswagen.
VW if you are looking, please fix this urgently. Cathye answered 3 years ago. And, this is my only car, I'm starting a new job. Change the voltage sensor Is low voltage the same issue i have and it startes just like that.. New posts. You must log in or register to reply here. I'm going to do a trial and error this weekend to fix the EPC. Im also not going to a VW dealer so they can tell me 6 other things are wrong and need fixing when they are not. I'd change a part then it would happen again. Wibergr answered 7 years ago. Started the car again and everything was fine, good idle, and responsive.
