The Drama Book Shop has announced the launch of its online shop, which makes the thousands of scripts and theatre books to be found at the New York store available worldwide. Featured on the site will also be staff recommendations, new plays, themed monthly selects, and more. It is my hope that the return of the shop will be a burst of inspiration for our community—I cannot wait for the world to come visit. I discovered incredible artists and new works through staff recommendations. I wrote so many songs from In The Heights in the basement there. Founded in by the Drama League, The Drama Book Shop became an independent bookstore in and has since been deemed a quintessential New York City cultural institution. For over years, the store has been a source for theatrical works, with over 8, plays regularly in stock. The Fund—whose advisory board members include Lynn Ahrens, Rachel Chavkin, and more—highlights emerging industry leaders. The new musical explores the intricacies of caregiving when illness descends upon a devoted couple. Both musicals will receive funds toward their show's presentation at a New York City non-profit theatre. The grant gives a playwright the opportunity to focus on their craft and debut their work, while gaining insight into the nonprofit theatre world. The presentation of the new works will be followed by a conversation moderated by Artistic Director Joe Barros.

The curtain almost closed on the iconic Drama Book Shop, but now it's celebrating a revival in a new location on West 39th Street. The beloved century-old specialty store had long been a popular gathering spot for the theater community and its fans. In , the shop nearly met its end with an insurmountable rent increase at its 40th Street location, until, it could be said, Hamilton came out of the wings to save the day. Kail started a small theater and created much of his early work in the old location, and it's where he and Miranda worked on In The Heights. Hamilton set designer David Korins helped create the shop's warm and inviting French cafe-style interior, with artwork celebrating some of the greatest shows to hit the stage, and replicas of George Washington's chair used in Hamilton. My hope is that continues every day here for the next years," Kail said. The shop will also sell pastries and coffee. The hope is that artists will continue to congregate there, and perhaps be inspired to create the next Broadway hit.
