However, it opted to change its name to Sud in February citing a legal dispute with a Sugo restaurant in Glasgow. The new concept did not prove a hit with customers, however, and in November it worried regulars by claiming it would "cease to exist" - although it later clarified that it simply meant the brand would be retired and a new concept launched in the new year. Sud has today unveiled that the new concept will be based around the tubular type of pasta called rigatoni, which is favoured in the south of Italy.

All four Sud Pasta restaurants in Manchester will close at the end of the year as the team prepares to launch a "new pasta project". The group said it has become "impossible" to maintain its offer "without reducing the size or cutting a shed load of corners". Posting the news on Instagram, Sud Pasta wrote: "Our final menu serves as a tribute to some of the cult dishes we've all loved over the last 8 years. By Ben Arnold 15 August Sud, the hit Manchester pasta restaurant, will be opening up in the Exhibition food hall, it has revealed. Owners had teased a new city centre location in recent weeks, and will now take over one of kitchens at the recently launched food hall and bar. The brothers, who draw from their southern Italian heritage, then opened a second restaurant in Ancoats and a third in Sale last year. It changed its name to Sud, from its original name Sugo, after a dispute with a Glasgow-based restaurant earlier this year.
