Skyrim has so much to offers fans that players are still powering on their consoles to play it ten years later. With the countless amount of quests and more mods than a Dragonborn can shake a sword at, it's almost guaranteed that everyone will find something they enjoy in this titular open-world game. Wait, wrong franchise. Still, even in Skyrim , staves can make the Dragonborn a force to be reckoned with. They are a marvelous way to cast spells without having to use Magicka and some have unique powers that will decimate enemies. Wielding the best staves will bring players untold power.

Though the natives of Skyrim might view magic as the weapon of milk drinkers, the land has plenty of opportunities and weapons for those who chose to pursue the arcane arts. There are many spells the Dragonborn can learn to incinerate their victims, but adding staves to the mix can help save on Magika costs and can help you deal more damage against higher-level foes. Many staves can be found while looting and pillaging dungeons and each staff offers its own unique ability. Some bring fire, others ice, and some staves can even raise the dead. Not all staves are made equal, however, and these staves are not only superior in ability but in style as well. True to its owner Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness, this staff seemingly embodies chaos. The Wabajack has a random effect that ranges from transforming a target to empowering them. You don't truly know what you will get with the Wabbajack and this can make it bothersome in actual combat. Not knowing if your staff will utterly destroy an enemy or help them is not something most people would see as ideal. However, what the staff lacks in reliability, is more than made up for in laughs. Summoning an Atronach to aid you in battle is an effective strategy and the Staff of The Storm Atronach makes that task a little easier.

Anyone can use a staff, regardless of magic skill, and using a staff does not use any of the caster's own Magicka ; instead, it depletes the staff's charge. However, the higher the user's skill level in the relevant magic school, the lower the charge cost to use the staff. Using staves does not increase your skills, nor do staves benefit from higher skill levels, with the exception of lowering the cost per use. Once the staff is completely discharged, it becomes unusable, and must be recharged using the same methods as any enchanted weapon, usually via a filled soul gem. However, the Soul Siphon perk will not work on it. Although staves are listed in your inventory under "Weapons", they are treated differently from other weapons.
