The Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort and Spa is an upscale property set a few minutes' walk from Four Mile Beach, but an eight-minute drive form the town center and its restaurants. The hotel has a spectacular, lagoon-style swimming pool that laps up against the terraces of some of the spare, but elegantly decorated, apartments. Nearly all of the apartments have some sort of perk, from two-person spa baths or full kitchens, to private terraces with hot tubs and barbecue grills, but they can show significant signs of wear and Wi-Fi is pricey. A spa, an all-day seafood-centric restaurant, and sundries shop round out the amenities. Travelers looking to stay closer to the center of town may want to try the Peppers Beach Club Port Douglas. The pool snakes organically around the hotel and is dotted with water features and rocky outcrops. The overall look is polished and beachy, but it doesn't quite live up to its advertised five-pearl rating. Guests are a mix of couples, families, and groups of friends. The four-mile long stretch of unspoiled golden sand is lovely and backs onto pockets of tropical rainforest. However, the property is out in the suburbs, meaning it's an eight-minute drive to get to the center of town, where there are a number of shops, bars, and restaurants. While the resort offers a shuttle bus to town and back, it costs to ride it. The rooms here are large and furnished in an elegant, spare manner, however, they can show significant signs of wear and tear. That said, all of the rooms have some sort of high-end touch. Studio Spa Rooms are the simplest units, lacking kitchens and iPod docks, but they have a king-sized bed and bathroom with two-person jetted tubs.

We are going to be staying at the Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort next month and while it is listed as a beach resort, I am a little confused as to just how close to the ocean beaches this resort is. Is it actually beachfront or is it quite a walk to the beach? We stayed there last month. Its is absolute beachfront - no roads to cross but you need to walk through a short green buffer, perhaps 40 metres from the closest rooms of the resort. There are a couple of walkways and easily signposted. Note it will still be stinger season next month so you will not be able to swim in the ocean but it is lovely to walk along, especially early mornings and evenings. Thanks for your help on the location. What exactly do you mean by "stinger season"?
