Some code readers will call the accelerator pedal sensor a throttle position sensor. The code definition I have for p is accelerator pedal sensor circuit low input. Possible causes for p are: Damaged accelerator pedal assembly AP accelerator pedal sensor not installed properly Faulty AP sensor Grounded wiring harness Faulty PCM Being a mechanic, I do see some bad, new parts so don't rule that out. First thing to do is make sure you installed it correctly. Second is to check the wire harness plug at the AP for loose or damaged terminals. If all looks good there, you will need a code reader or scanner to read data PID's. Watch the volt meter reading as you slowly press the AP.

P and P Throttle position sensor problems. Thread Tools. Hi all New member here looking for some advice. I have an RV on a E with a 6. All was good a month ago when I drove it for an hour or so to a storage location. Now it starts but the accelerator does nothing.
For as serious as this code can be, the repairs are often relatively inexpensive and easy to make, even for a home mechanic. While you may need to replace the sensor, it may also only be a problem with the wiring around it. The throttle position sensor TPS monitors the movement of your throttle. When the throttle opens, it generates a voltage. The more open the throttle, the higher the voltage should be.

No one wants to see the Check Engine Light come on, especially when the motor performance seems to be suffering. In this guide, I look at the meaning behind the P trouble code. I also show you what causes it, the symptoms created by the fault, and I give you steps to fix it. The P trouble code signifies that the throttle position sensor or switch A circuit has a lower input than expected. The throttle position sensor is tasked with tracking the position of the throttle. The sensor sits on the throttle body in most configurations. The DTC could also indicate that something is wrong with the electronic throttle pedal, which is installed on most newer models. The throttle position sensor sends off a signal telling the computer how to manage the fuel-to-air ratio.

What its doing is slipping out of gear like right before it shifts into third it feels like it goes into neutral! Unfortunately the vehicle is about an hour and half drive from me so I can't run out on a whim and do some more tests. You should also check that the spark plug gap is set properly. But before that. Instructional videos are numerous on YouTube. This means the ECU is asking the throttle plate to go to a throttle opening angle, but the throttle plate is failing to get there or is too slow to get there. If your spark plugs look good, problems with your ignition system can also preventing a spark. Which takes over control of the throttle body. Also, when replaceing it, make sure you get it on there right. But leaving the ingnition on for more than a few minutes should start a throttle body adaption weather you have fitted a different throttle body or not used to compensate for wear in the throttle body as the throttle body gets older. I was there yesterday. Reply to this topic Start new topic.

I disconnected the cable from the throttle position sensor. Then i get the tps code again and then the tranny started doing it again! The two sensors are run in parallel with TP1 tracking from 5 to 0 volts and TP2 reversed as the throttle plate rotates from closed to fully open.
Big to you thanks for the necessary information.
