Mitochondria clay model

For those of us who grew up in the days of read-about-a-cell-in-the-textbook-and-take-a-test-on-the-parts-of-the-cell, it can sometimes be difficult to remember that mitochondria clay model are lots of fun ways to study all kinds of topics!

Using 3D models of the parts of plant and animal cells can help students to understand the cell from a visual perspective. To represent both the mitochondria, also known as the "powerhouse" of the cell" and the the chloroplast, organelles found only in plant cells and eukaryotic algae, use a styrofoam egg and different colors of clay. Making these models of organelles will allow students to see the inner workings of the components of the mitochondria and chloroplast. Slice the styrofoam egg in half at a degree angle from top to bottom using a craft knife. Place one half aside. Paint the outside of the half styrofoam egg using brown craft paint. This will represent the outer membrane of the mitochondria.

Modeling a plant cell can prove to be a fun way to know the structure and functions of its organelles. The current article provides an easy way to build your own plant cell model using simple decorative material as well as edible treats like jello, candy and jelly beans. Cells serve as the building blocks in the structural and functional organization of living beings. They are the basic units of life that work together to perform life-sustaining functions. Depending on the fundamental structure of the cell, all living organisms are grouped into two broad divisions termed prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The structural and functional complexity of prokaryotes is less as compared to eukaryotes, with the main difference being the absence of nucleus in prokaryotes. Plants belong to the group of multicellular eukaryotes, and they possess the ability to synthesize sugar in the presence of sunlight. Autotrophy is one of their most distinguishing characteristics. Their cells comprise additional organelles specific for photosynthesis as well as rigidity. Given below is a simple procedure to construct a plant cell model from some easily available items which can be used to represent the different organelles.
