Now that Amazon supports sending ePub files to Kindle ereaders and Kindle apps by email, some people are reporting errors with the formatting after Amazon converts the ePub to Kindle format. Technically ePubs should be set to UTF Additionally, cover images now show up with sent ePubs when using the latest 5. I do not. Thank you so much for this.

There are multiple layers to my question. I have scoured Google for this, but no clear answer has come up about my specific situation, as most answers pertain to fixed layout epubs—and Adobe Support is rather vague. I need this explained to me in layman's terms please. I have seen multiple ebooks display featured fonts in Kindle without me having to download fonts to the device. Furthermore, I have seen other book formatting agencies use specialty fonts via Kindle. So, I'm wondering if leaving the font obfuscated strips the font on my end but maybe it will show in the published purchased version? This would be vital information to my clients, so any advice would help. Some background: I format my work for my author clients with Adobe Fonts and use ID to convert my reflowable epubs to Sigil. Thank you in advance. That Adobe fonts are somewhat more tightly controlled than most, especially within the Adobe app ecosystem, doesn't help. My sincere recommendation is that e-books, especially to the very closed and controlled Kindle platform, should not use specified fonts. The readers, again especially Kindle, really want full control of font, size, spacing etc. Thanks for the advice! I am still left scratching my head, though, because it seems like it's possible, and I can't seem to find a clear-cut answer. They get encrypted names with a leading dot to make them invisible.

This book will not be published at Amazon but potentially on other platforms. The software uses fonts typically found on some of the latest "Kindle" devices. These fonts are "Amazon Ember", "Bookerly" and "Monospace" of which the latter seems to be free to use.

That font file that you used is a TTC font file, which is a collection of true type font files. Those are NOT supported in an epub. Your best bet is to use OTF font files only when creating an epub and embedding fonts. True type fonts may work as well, but from experience I have better results by sticking to OTF fonts only. Normally, you just add a book to calibre, click convert and calibre will try hard to generate output that is as close as possible to the input. However, calibre accepts a very large number of input formats, not all of which are as suitable as others for conversion to e-books. In the case of such input formats, or if you just want greater control over the conversion system, calibre has a lot of options to fine tune the conversion process.
