Honda code p1009
General Tech Help Good at troubleshooting?
Have had some recent problems. I let it get a couple of quarts low on oil and the car started having an intermittent rattle while driving. Its had a rattle on startup for quite a while. Now it starts for a few seconds and dies and I have a P engine code. Brian answered 6 years ago.

I decided since I got so much good information from this forum that I should give some back regarding an issue I just solved with my Accord LX 2. It has to do with the engine running poorly, a P code and a very poor choice of placement for a bad rag. I wanted to make sure I got this information out there since the P code almost led me down a long path involving the variable valve timing system and timing chain. Thankfully, I stopped and checked some basic things before digging in and found the issue that I unknowingly created in the first place. It was not the VVT system. It was not low oil or wrong oil. It was not a jumped or stretched timing chain.
As for the high rpm, maybe it has something honda code p1009 do with the throttle? Reading the EOC, I know that it might take a few cycles for it to get cleared so I wasn't stressed about it, especially considering that I had just filled the tank yesterday and made sure that I clicked the cap about 4 times.

So, it is likely that you are wondering what the problem is if your mechanic has pulled code P from your car. In the case of a Honda Accord, diagnostic code P means the variable valve timing control advance is malfunctioning. The error code you receive sounds pretty severe, so what should you do if you see it? Controlling the intake camshaft phase is done through the variable valve timing control system VTC. The valve timing can be optimized based on driving conditions using oil pressure to operate the VTC actuator. The diagnostic trouble code DTC is stored if there is an over-advanced camshaft phase compared with the directed value or if the camshaft phase is otherwise abnormal. The VTC system controls camshaft oil intake. By providing optimal engine efficiency and performance, the VTC system can maximize engine performance. The process reduces emissions as well.

P is a common Honda made vehicle trouble code. This code indicates the VVT advance control is malfunctioning, leaving the engine timing stuck advanced. It works by using oil pressure to hydraulically move the camshaft. This allows the engine to have more power and efficiency across the RPM range. When P is present, the VTC actuator is not changing the camshaft timing anymore, which leaves the engine with a more aggressive cam profile at lower RPM. If it is really low, there may not be enough oil pressure for the VTC actuator to properly function. Even if the oil level is full, if the oil is super dirty, it can cause the VTC actuator or strainer to clog up and cease functioning properly. There is a strainer screen that stands between the oil supply and VTC actuator. You can change the oil and see if that clears the code.
Beautiful ladyboy
I have an 06, and was wondering where the Actuator is located. Replaced filter and oil with the Ravenol VW spec oil. Oil was replaced with millers 5W miles ago. All times are GMT Hope this helps if you get the same code. So honda checked code and replaced VTEC valve switch assymbly. Last time I changed the oil and cleaned the vtc screens and it was good for 30k kms. First post here. Replaced engine oil and filter with factory recommend oil weight if necessary.
The diagnostic trouble code DTC P in Honda vehicles is an indication of an issue related to the timing control of the variable valve system. The VTC system plays a crucial role in determining the opening of the intake camshaft, effectively managing the amount of oil that flows into the camshaft.

I wanted to make sure I got this information out there since the P code almost led me down a long path involving the variable valve timing system and timing chain. It was not a jumped or stretched timing chain. DCM 54 Replies. I started with the strainer behind the serpentine belt auto tensioner then moved to check the solenoid passenger side of the engine then the spool valve back side of the engine. Something like that: Background: Vehicle has , miles on it and has been driven relatively gently in central Wisconsin for the last 5 years or so. After a while I got it to pull off clean.
