Gucamele

Epic Games Store is back again with new free titles for the week, gucamele. We have heard a gucamele about the Multiverse and the Spider-Verse, but now it's time to enter the Mexiverse with Gucamelee!

Welcome to the world of Guacamelee! This wonderfully lavish and beautiful world was created by Drinkbox studios — an indie developer founded in in Toronto, Canada. You take the role of Mexican farmer, Juan, just as he is chosen to aid in setting up a festival that is planned to take place in his home village. This is where the luchadore gods bless Juan with an ancient and powerful mask that will send him back to the world of the living to stop the dark trio from completing their dark mission. As with most games, all the great moves that really open up the combat system have to be unlocked throughout playing the game. The first time I entered combat there was a simple to follow tutorial that shows you the various attacks and dodges of the core combat system. When you weaken most enemies there is a button prompt that appears above them that allows you the ability to grapple and throw them across the battle area.

At the end of Guacamelee! At the beginning of Guacamelee! We see Juan in peak physical condition, completely leveled up and immensely powerful. The player learns different combat combinations and fighting techniques and handily takes down the big bad from the previous entry and the world is at peace. Flash-forward in time several years. A beer belly hangs lazily over his belt as he plays hide and seek with his children, eagerly awaiting dinner from his adoring wife. As you could have probably already guessed, there is mischief afoot in the Mexiverse. Seemingly out of nowhere, giant portals appear that start consuming major parts of the world. The timeline in which we see Juan is the only timeline in which Juan actually defeated Calaca. In all of the other timelines, Juan was killed and Calaca was bested by the mysterious luchador Salvador. Salvador, using the power of a tainted lucha mask, defeated Calaca but is now dying as the taint slowly takes over his body. The only way Salvador can be saved is by collecting all three of the sacred relics to open the portal to the realm where the Sacred Guacamole is kept. Legend has it that the Sacred Guacamole has curative properties that will both heal Salvador and make him remarkably powerful.

All games come to an end.

The game picks up where the previous game left off, pacing you through the final boss fight in the direction the game wants you to take in order to set up the sequel. Lucky for me and those who never played the first game , the boss fight is far easier this time around — I remember it taking me multiple attempts on my first go around with Guacamelee. Taking place about seven years after the events of that boss fight, Guacamelee 2 sees Juan as a family man — only to be cast back into the role of the main protagonist in another metroidvania-type adventure is the Mexiverse. Juan can also jump between the world of the living and the world of the dead after gaining the ability to do so — evoking memories of the recently-released Flipping Death by Zoink as well as the first Guacamelee title. The mechanic can be used to get past certain areas because things dis appear when you switch and makes for some fun platforming challenges.

This guacamole, adapted from Josefina Howard, the chef at the original Rosa Mexicano restaurant in Manhattan is dead simple. It'a also easily scaled to serve a crowd, which is good, because you'll need a lot of it — even if you're the only one partaking. Log in or sign up to save this recipe. Cut the tomato in half horizontally, squeeze out the juice and seeds and discard. Chop pulp, and add it to the bowl. Cut the avocado in half lengthwise, cutting around the pit. Gently twist the top half of the avocado off to separate the halves and remove the pit. Slice the avocado flesh of both halves lengthwise, then crosswise, cutting down to the skin, to form a grid.

These games, known for their punishing difficulty and precise platform mechanics, clearly inspired platforming sections in Guacamelee! I waited a good while before getting it on Vita alongside a few other metroidvanias, and that seems to have been the right investment with La Mulana whereof we're only getting the sequel , yet here we are. Like most games of its ilk, from the very beginning the player can see areas and doors that are inaccessible. All it left me with was the urge not to play Platinum games or Yoko Taro games. Sundred, a rougevania a horrible concept in practice is a game that for every common-sense decision it manages to make, insists on making 17 wrong ones. Just not soon. And the same applies to the ending. It almost reminded me of the Batman Arkham games more than typical 2D games. Also at the very end of the game you have to choose who goes free between yourself as the player or your initial choice at the beginning of the liberation rite. The game was sadly short enough that you could play through its entirety in one sitting. In addition to being a fun gameplay experience, it's also an example of how artistic vision and clever, light-hearted writing can enhance an experience, an example of what can be achieved when development studios devote themselves fully to delivering a high quality product. Enter the Gungeon: I had a successful run! But Pyre was the big surprise. Great game, but the combat system wasn't what I wanted.

This authentic Guacamole Recipe is loaded with avocados, tomato, onion, cilantro, plenty of lime juice, salt, and pepper.

More Like This. Head into the Mexiverse this week with Epic Games Store. There were many occasions where the gameplay and story came together to craft moments and narratives that are unique to this medium. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. I still have memories of my first runs of those games, of both the small and large events. Taking place about seven years after the events of that boss fight, Guacamelee 2 sees Juan as a family man — only to be cast back into the role of the main protagonist in another metroidvania-type adventure is the Mexiverse. Each world is vibrant and interesting, the color palettes using bright reds, greens, and purples to make every section of every level glow. Though his career of hunting Skaarj has come to an end, he has discovered a passion for gaming. There are massive spoilers incoming. There are six orbs scattered around the game world and each of is blocked by a puzzle or a platform challenge. At the outset most enemies can be dispatched with a few punchery-dos and a couple of suplexes but as you gain abilities, enemies start showing resistances general attacks and special moves must be used. As a case in point the fifth floor of the wum house is inaccessible due to a build up of dust. The papercraft art style has its own unique traits that I found very charming. This is where the luchadore gods bless Juan with an ancient and powerful mask that will send him back to the world of the living to stop the dark trio from completing their dark mission.
