The company formerly known as Toy R Us announced in early October that it had cancelled an auction to sell off all of its assets. Instead, its controlling interests reorganized as Geoffrey, LLC and later announced during a toy-industry event that it would launch a new retail brand for in-store pop-ups, called Geoffrey's Toy Box, the New York Post reported. Wasn't KB talking about making a comeback this holiday season?

Toys "R" Us is now Geoffrey's Toy Box, and fans have already started seeing some of the locations popping up. Unfortunately, many haven't been thrilled with their debut. That's mainly because of the size of them, which does very much resemble the Toy Box part of the new name. As part of their new plan for the IP, Geoffrey's Toy Boxes will be located within other established retail stores, and that includes around Kroger locations. Fans are starting to see them rolled out, but as we've seen in several pictures the presence isn't' very large within the store, taking up either a small cardboard stand or a row of them, but neither scenario is what fans were hoping for when they heard the original premise. The other sticking point is the selection. Now, in this case, the company was pretty upfront about the selection of brands offered at launch. In the full Geoffrey's Toy Box reveal press release, they revealed some of the brands from a portfolio of over 20 that would be offered, at least in the beginning, and you can check out an excerpt from that release below. The reorganized company will own rights to the Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us brands in all markets globally, with the exception of Canada.

What's left of Toys R Us is returning for the holidays, with Geoffrey's Toy Box setting up shop this month in about Kroger stores in nearly 30 states, the nation's largest supermarket chain said Friday. The grocery chain is the latest retailer to make a play for former Toys R Us shoppers. Walmart and Target are expanding their toy sections, and Amazon is sending physical toy catalogs to customers. The move at Kroger's is not entirely a surprise, given the bankrupt retailer's mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe, in April made an unexpected -- and for some unwelcome -- appearance at a toy industry trade show, seemingly sent by a group of lenders that controls the bankrupt retailer's intellectual property and is planning a second act. A company called Geoffrey LLC was formed last month after the funds that took control of the retailer's assets reversed plans on auctioning off its intellectual property, opting to try to resuscitate the brand instead. The news is not sitting well with the 33, Toys R Us workers laid off without severance, said Carrie Gleason, policy director for Organization United For Respect, or OUR, an advocacy group pressing the financial firms behind the decision to liquidate Toys R Us to contribute to a fund for affected employees.

Maybe that's just me, but I can't see them selling enough to make enough to expand back into having retail stores if this is all they got going on for them.
