The Underground Crimson is a Hardmode biome , being one of the biomes that spawns when the Wall of Flesh is defeated. It is the underground version of the surface -level Crimson , and appears at and below the cavern layer. It operates similarly to surface Hardmode Crimson, being comprised of Crimstone and Crimsand , though it spawns different enemies. Underground Crimson spreads just like surface Crimson, and similarly can not spread to The Hallow nor to Underground Hallow. Underground Crimson does not suppress the spawn of other underground and cavern enemies. Note: Most characteristics of surface Crimson apply to the Underground Crimson, with the exception of the enemies that spawn. See Crimson for more extensive information.

Thorny bushes growing in the grass. The Crimson is an evil biome with a fleshy infection, red gore theme, in contrast to the dark purple wasteland theme of its counterpart, the Corruption. Both contain similar hazards and feature their own unique enemies , items , and blocks. The tools , weapons , and armor obtained via Crimson material generally have minor advantages over those obtained via Corruption materials; however, Corruption tools are slightly faster. Crimson enemies tend to have slightly higher stats, such as health, defense, and damage. The Crimson contains multiple chasms , extensions of the biome into the underground. Every chasm has an entrance on the surface and leads to a large, circular cavity, then branches off into small "fingers" which end with a Crimson Heart. Crimson Altars generally line the chasm's passages, appearing inside and around it. The Crimson spreads, meaning it slowly converts adjacent tiles to their Crimson variants. See below for details.

The Underground Crimson is a biome. It is the underground version of the surface -level Crimson , appearing at and below the Cavern layer. Just like the surface Crimson, it is mainly composed of Crimstone and spreads to nearby tiles. Although it is available in pre-Hardmode , most of its exclusive contents will only appear during Hardmode. After the Wall of Flesh is defeated for the first time, a diagonal stripe of Crimson is generated, creating additional Underground Crimson biome. Old-gen console and 3DS versions Small pockets of Underground Crimson can be created through the breaking of Crimson Altars , which can convert a single random Stone Block in the world into Crimstone upon destruction.
Like the Corruption , the Crimson is a difficult environment to survive in with its strong enemies that can be very troublesome for new players. Exploring the biome is not required to progress in the game, however it is full of useful items so it is recommended to visit due to the Deathbringer Pickaxe being required to mine Hellstone. Unlike the Corruption, the Chasms consist of an entrance to a "cave" instead of multiple, deep pits. This makes exploration easier, although the enemies are more varied and more dangerous. Once inside the cave the goal is to smash the Crimson Hearts found at the bottom of them. They let off a faint glow which will allow the player to easily locate them, but can only be reached initially by use of Bombs or Purification Powder purchased from the Dryad. They can then be destroyed by using a Hammer or Bombs. Just like the Corruption, a diagonal strip of Crimson biome will appear on either side of the world, and any Crimson block will start spreading. The player will also be able to use the Pwnhammer dropped by the Wall of Flesh to smash the Crimson Altars. Destroying them will generate new ores, which are almost mandatory to progress in the game.
