Yes, it is a catnip dispensary. The unique operation is the brainchild of Mike White, a year-old entrepreneur who stumbled across several strains of nepeta cataria, the herbaceous perennial commonly known as catnip, during the pandemic. White bought two catnip plants shortly after he rescued a stray cat from the streets of Toronto and immediately noticed how the two plants caused vastly different reactions. Then one day during a hike, White noticed some catnip growing in the wild. He began harvesting strains of the plant from forests all across the Greater Toronto Area and testing them on his network of cats to determine the type of high the cats received from the plants. He hang-dries every plant for at least 90 days, harvests the buds and then cures them in jars for another 90 days. The walls were closing in on me. So, after 15 years in the city, he decided to move to Midland and open a catnip dispensary at King St. The large colourful cat plastered on the entrance — a picture of his cat Nymeria — was to help emphasis what the store sells. He has used cat-themed puns to name the various strains of catnip he sells, including Freddie Purrcury, Fuzz Aldrin, and Pawnapple Express and has used pictures of the test cats in the artwork on the packaging.
