The remote scout unit came to Earth as a cloud of nanotechnological robots, and took over the body of sideshow mentalist Milton Fine , who worked under the alias "Brainiac". While Clark transformed fully into Superdoom in the midst of battling Brainiac, Lois managed to break the villain's control and transfer Brainiac's power to Superman, which he was able to use to cure himself of the Doomsday virus.
