A short time ago, I wrote a post summarizing the eight language learning resources that I use on a regular basis. Although I briefly mentioned the reason why I use these resources, assimil, how I use them and their approximate costs, assimil, I wanted to spend assimil time to write out thorough reviews of each of the eight resources as well.

After getting no response from support I posted a negative review. After more digging I found a way to request a refund and the funds have been put back into my account. Maybe I bought this in the past and forgot since I was looking at Russian a couple years ago. It would be nice to have contact with support to resolve these issues. It would making committing to this learning method smoother. My other problem is that I wanted to delete my previous review and replace it with this one and hopefully a five star review if I can ever get all this straightened out. For clarity: Assimil publishes these courses in books and recordings; Mantano delivers that same content via this and the related apps.

As far as I am personally concerned, assimil, Assimil is on assimil top of my language toolkit. I find their dialogues very amusing even when the context is not common.

Assimil is a French company producing dialog-based language courses. Their materials are generally considered excellent, but require more self-discipline than the Foreign Service Institute courses. Many people alter the "official" Assimil instructions slightly to fit more into their personal learning style, by emphasizing Shadowing , transcribing the audio portions of the lessons, etc. Some people find the Assimil voice actors speak unnaturally slowly during the first week or two of dialogs. I have found Assimil Arabic terrible , way too slow and not in the Assimil teaching line. The second part progresses more quickly, applying familiar structures to expand your fluency. The essential ideas are repeatedly listening to the audio while reading both versions of the text probably about 10 times in various combinations and taking the time to do the exercises and read the notes. It would making committing to this learning method smoother. What I can tell is I can have decent conversations in Italian, Spanish and Portuguese Brasilian , admittedly the easiest languages for a Frenchman. Grab the link to this article. I used assimi since the 80s when my dad introduced me to it. I also love how Assimil connects the written language with the spoken language. As they grow, they can always work towards making more of their publications available in other languages based on demand. This is in stark contrast to a product like Pimsleur for example where the founder Paul Pimsleur and his method are very well documented with lots of supportive evidence and data.
