The simple premise of the VForce3 reed valve system is to increase engine power and throttle response by increasing the efficiency over a conventional reed valve design.

By hodgkins , October 18, in Kawasaki 2 Stroke. I have carbon fiber ones in my 01 now but I can't remember what kind. More than likely they are Boyesen single stage. Ultimately I would like a set that provide the best low end. I run Boyesen Carbon Pros, because I like the response they give in the meat of the midrange, and they don't flutter at high rpms like stock resin reeds. For low-end, you want the three-stage Power Reeds, but they do take some substantial jetting changes to run correctly. The V-Force is mostly marketing hype. It will produce some improvement in throttle response, but it will not produce any significant increase in power production levels. The Rad Valve will increase actual power ouput, across nearly the entire rev range. So where do you imagine the missing center divider went when it broke off? If you guessed that it went through the owner's engine, with predictable results, give yourself a cookie. I run V force and felt a definite improvement in torque and throttle response on both KX and CR On the CR85 there was also definitely an increase in top end too and bigger mid range hit. I'm really hoping for more low and mid range power from that motor without sacrificing any top end. I might gie them a try.

T he Jolly Green Giant. They offered a hard-hitting motor, housed in a solid if not particularly nimble chassis. Riders still praised its torquey power plant, but bemoaned its girthy chassis, anemic brakes and mushy suspension. As the new decade began, the KX was starting to feel like a machine rooted in the nineties, while all the competition was roosting away into the new decade. On the track, its excellent torque and meaty midrange made it a very effective motocross weapon. In truth, it is not hard to see why Kawasaki had stayed with this formula for so long. They had reeled off several Motocross and Supercross titles and captured more than their fair share of shootout victories. It was a proven design, which made green the color to have throughout much of the grunge decade. Unfortunately, however, success often breeds complacency, and Kawasaki got sucked into this trap as the decade came to an end.

The recent purchase of my KX came with new in box VForce3 reeds. I also like to clean and verify carburetor jetting on any motorcycle that I purchase, especially 2 strokes. The broken petal is on top left. I performed a compression test when I first purchased this KX, and it came in at psi. After the VForce reed install, I retested compression and it shot up to psi. After reading some forums posts, this model should see anywhere from psi with a fresh top end. Remember, the reeds act like a one way check valve, only letting air in the engine. The broken reed petal was allowing some of the air escape back where it came from rather than into the combustion chamber, hence the lower compression reading.

Since the petals are only traveling half the distance, they generally last longer are they receive less wear than the reed petals on a conventional reed valve design.
