After that, Satoru Gojo puts the students in pairs for their afternoon jujutsu practice, with Maki and Yuta together. Maki reacts with a dismissive "gah", making Yuta more nervous. However, he responds politely with, "I'm looking forward to working with you. She goes off on him, saying he acts like a good person, but it feels fake. Maki thinks he's playing a victim when he has protection from Rika, continuing on berating him by saying Yuta has been passive his whole life without any goals. She also says that Jujutsu High isn't that easy, and Panda tells her that's enough. He tells Yuta that Maki can be "a little harsh sometimes. The two, along with Gojo, go to an elementary school to exorcise a cursed spirit. There, they find out that some students went missing.

A series of alternative events results in Yuuta Okkotsu returning to Japan far before he did in the original timelines. It feels like Okkotsu is also someone who gives yuta and maki to Maki.

Jujutsu Kaisen was originally published as a short manga series by Gege Akutami well before the name "Yuji Itadori" meant anything to anime fans. If this synopsis sounds familiar, it's because Akutami's one-shot was later retconned as a prequel to the weekly Jujutsu Kaisen series that fans know and love today. Volume 0 is full of incredible settings and characters, but none stand out quite like Yuta — not even Panda. Anime-only fans of Jujutsu Kaisen may not have recognized the name Yuta Okkotsu when the Volume 0 anime film was announced, but they'll surely recognize the young man when the film debuts. During the second opening sequence of Jujutsu Kaisen 's first season, Yuta looks back at the viewers with his trademark katana strapped tight to his back. Even some manga fans could have missed this short cameo, but once Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie releases, fans won't miss this Yuta cameo again. Unless, of course, they skip the opening sequence altogether. Anime-only fans have yet to meet Yuta Okkotsu, but their familiarity with Tokyo Jujutsu High will make it a bit easier to introduce the young sorcerer in Volume 0. Yuta spent his first year at Tokyo Jujutsu High studying alongside Maki, Toge, and Panda, which means he's a second-year student in the current timeline. As Megumi and Yuji's senpai, Yuta deserves the same respect that fans give Maki and Toge, despite the fact that he has yet to make it into Yuji's story.
