Towards the end of last year, there were plenty of games I was playing back to back, slowly chipping away at each of them. I actually wrote off the first Yooka-Laylee , since I was seeing so much disappointment from longtime Rare fans who were eager for the Banjo-Kazooie legacy to carry on. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair was one of the few games I bought on launch day at the end of last year. This game does so much right. The visuals are stellar, the characters are well animated, the level design is masterful and each one feels different, the music is an incredible feat from top to bottom. At the end of each level and hidden throughout the world are the captured Beetalion, which are similar to the Super Mario 64 stars. This masterful setup reminds me of Mega Man X where players fight the super-strong Vile only to see Vile outmatched by Zero. Recovering from a beating, X is told by Zero that one day X will be stronger than him, creating an instant motivation for the player both mechanically and narratively. Beating a stage and saving a member of the Beetalion feels like a celebration and it never gets old. The journey to save as many bees needed to clear the final stage is a roller coaster of well-designed levels, each with their own music and feelings. My favorite levels were the more curious stages that focused mostly on exploring an area. Since this is an echo of what was done in Donkey Kong Country , many of the stages are filled with little secrets and each stage has five coins to discover that can unlock more stages. Each level also has a parallel stage that can be entered once certain conditions in the overworld are met, such as rerouting water to flood an area. Despite its cute charms, there are segments of this game that are just tough.
AlexSora89 Yeah I'm sure, yooka laylee on switch, its not the best username out there but it sure is loads better than SoraAlex Club a "7" given its mobile origin and its near full retail price. The overall score is based on how much fun I personally had with every component of the game and the overall experience.
Yooka-Laylee Switch eShop. In a post- Super Mario Odyssey world, the bar has been set even higher for 3D platformers. How, then, can a game like Yooka-Laylee stack up - a game so firmly focused on the past rather than the future? Though it may not quite hit the heights of some contemporaries, Yooka-Laylee still stands as a fantastic modern take on 3D platforming and a worthy follow up to the Banjo-Kazooie series. The evil Capital B wishes to take over the world with the help of the One Book, and so the titular dynamic duo sets out to collect Pagies hidden in each of the five worlds. Along the way there are platforming challenges galore that can be tackled in just about any order, prioritizing freedom of choice above all else. These are all relatively expected, but they nonetheless make the player feel more empowered as the game goes on and provide a steady sense of progress.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair Switch. Now, hold on a minute. There are 48 of these bees in total, and each one you rescue will let you take an extra hit in the Impossible Lair without dying. This is a clever way of letting the player decide how hard their final challenge should be. Having already delivered a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie with the first game , the team at Playtonic has shifted its focus to the 2D platforming world. So much of the action feels like a perfectly natural evolution of the Donkey Kong Country mechanics. Yooka can roll into a ball and plough through enemies with Laylee riding on top to keep the roll going , just like Donkey Kong could. There are plenty of suspiciously barrel-like structures that fire you out at great speeds when you jump into them. Even the way you can gain a little distance off a jump by rolling off a ledge before jumping is captured here perfectly. Stage design is meticulous, with challenge after challenge neatly linking together alongside various hidden pathways and occasional Super Mario World -style secret exit which are just begging to be explored on a second run.

Alex and the NL crew refuse to admit this. I posted this in the Forum section, here, after downloading my backer copy. Hardcore Gamer. So gibberish. True, there still are detractors not accostumed to a level of difficulty games don't seem to have anymore at the time and believe me, I rolled my eyes so much when people called the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy "the next Dark Souls" they started to HURT , but that was largely overshadowed by how good the game was. Also it took time to collaberate with Nintendo directly on everything. Full content visible, double tap to read brief content. The last level, The Galaxy pirate place, is also a masterwork. Although the thought of input lag alone is enough to put me off. A solid game, but when the Switch has so many highly recommended games available I heard a lot of good and bad things about this game. I have the PS4 Xbox 1s switch and a Alienware computer.

I'm just afraid all the nay-sayers mean that Playtonic won't think it's worth the chance to take pushing the series forwards. Customer reviews. You just don't want to damage your credibility with inflated review scores Total price:. It's seriously the best review site out there for Nintendo games and related products. It's disturbing to me that people are quick to insinuate that a positive review is given for unsavory reasons when it's all a matter of opinion. Climbing netting is weird, and a few other tight tricks are not as easily executed as they should be.
