Secret for the night was to fish 2 squid on a size aki twist or octopus hook. I got picked up early on by a nice yt. Took me around the boat, but I got it to the boat in my Avet SX spooled full with 40lb spectra with 30lb fluoro topshot. Here's where my night was almost ruined. The deckhand gaffed my lb yt in an awkward spot, and as he's pulling it up, it slips off the gaff and falls back in the water. The line is now wrapped around the gaff so when the fish starts to swim, I don't have time to do anything other than hang on as my line pops. Oh well, mistakes happen and I have some yt from my 5 day on the Vagabond that I still have to write a report about. I take a deep breath, go in the galley and let the disappointment run its course.
