When people from the military came to her house, Winry became worried that they'll take Ed away but Riza reassures her that the choice is Ed's. Even though Winry didn't want Ed to become a state Alchemist, she understands that is was the only way for him and Al to find away for them to restore their bodies. As Winry helps her grandmother with the surgery to attach Ed's new auto-mail limps, she listens to Ed blaming himself for what happened to Al and how he was too scared to ask Al about it. Winry doesn't inform Al of that moment, knowing that it would upset Ed if she did so behind his back. After Ed became the Fullmetal Alchemist he doesn't kept in touch with Winry, unless his auto-mail was damaged and he needed her to repair it. Which could be the reason why Winry has asked Ed to call her whenever he is in need of a tune up.
