This massive antique fish trap creel is from the northern part of the Philippines. The top or warp of the basket is made from a single piece of bamboo and the body out of tightly woven split bamboo wickerwork. In addition to being striking in size and craftsmanship, this piece served a practical purpose — small fish would be carried by the current and swim through the series of seven holes with the loosely woven interior cone hasang preventing them from escaping.
