Proviamo a fare un giro di ricordi tra i mercati coperti di Milano, luoghi sorti a partire soprattutto dal primo Novecento e che, nel corso di un secolo si sono trasformati o, in alcuni casi, spariti completamente. Al suo interno trovarono spazio i banchi per la vendita di frutta e verdura. La struttura venne demolita col volgere del secolo. Un altro mercato coperto venne realizzato a Porta Genova , in piazzale Cantore, tra la Darsena e il casello del Dazio, con una struttura come la precedente, in legno. Un sapore da halles parigine, alla Georges Simenon per intenderci. La superficie totale del mercato era pari a mq, di cui coperti, per un totale di 13 campate e 56 banchi di vendita. La superficie del mercato recintato era pari a 1. Nello stesso periodo fu realizzato anche il mercato coperto di piazza Crespi, oggi Gramsci, alla Bullona.
