County Salaries in North Carolina is a self-reported data repository of county salaries, sponsored by the School of Government. North Carolina counties volunteer to provide this information to benefit other public organizations and the general public. This report is a downloadable file in Excel format containing salary and wage profiles by position that participating counties are offering for the fiscal year based on September 1, salary levels. This year, we are presenting the salary data and benefits data as separate sheets, so that the datasets can be appended to rather than overwritten in future iterations. The salary sheet also includes salaries as well as select demographic information like population, tax valuation, etc. The new format allows for easier filtering and sorting and will make it easier to analyze the data in external software programs.

Any salary increase in any amount for a career-banded title for which we do not have delegated authority or which results in an exemption to any standing OSHR policy must go to UNC System Office Human Resources for pre-approval. That office will consult directly with OSHR as needed to obtain any required pre-approvals. In those cases, the range maximum is the limit. Any individual temporary adjustment that exceeds 12 months in duration also will require System Office pre-approval, regardless of the amount of that adjustment. Note: Across-the-board legislative increases do not trigger System Office pre-approval. Discretionary ARP increases, however, are subject to the pre-approval rules above.
