The proposal is to build a new classrooms block to host three classes of 30 students, one multipurpose hall to host about people, and the related services kitchen, storage, toilets. Classrooms and hall will follow the topography of the site and connect to the existing school through horizontal pathways. No activities or built structures occupy the site, even though an old foundation still rests on the lower part of the plot and it will be demolished. The new construction remains within the plot boundaries and adheres to all zoning and building regulations of the City of Kigali. The site is in proximity of a wetland, but the plot boundaries are outside the limits of its buffer, approximately at 45m from a small river.

The school has a teaching staff of 19 dedicated teachers and 12 support staff. School Library Students love reading at UA. They borrow books from our library and enjoy weekly library sessions. They also read e-books on the tablets and have access to books in English, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, and French. All students have the opportunity to use the devices every week to expand their knowledge. Critical thinking We encourage children to develop problem solving skills from an early age so they can apply their minds to any of life's challenges. Independent and Cooperative Learning Students learn how to work together and independently to accomplish tasks, both in and outside of the classroom. Our classrooms are named after Heroes to remind students of this every day. Teachers and students also participate in Peace activities, taught through all subjects. We have a close relationship with Genocide Memorial Centre and are proud to be the first Primary School in Rwanda to attend their educational training programme. MASS was brought onboard to select the new site, design the new educational facility, as well as assist in building the organizational structure to support the educational programs for the Kabeza neighborhood. The school opened in July of with H. President Paul Kagame inaugurating the project. MASS created unique settings for learning with a mix of interior rooms, exterior teaching areas, and terraced play spaces for children. MASS collaborated with local craftsmen to incorporate local expertise in the process. The design employs natural ventilation strategies, and the verendeel trusses in the roof structure create clerestory lighting in order to reduce energy consumption. The project aims to maintain the high standard of the primary education offered by Umubano School, and takes the opportunity to implement environmentally and socially responsible solutions into the design, raising the sustainability of construction and operations. Moreover the new buildings will offer further education opportunities to support the prosperous development of Rwanda.

The school, which replaced existing dilapidated facilities was inaugurated by H. E President Paul Kagame in July The architects focused on contextualisation, with a goal of designing a school that fits in its context to inspire and integrate the community. The school mirrors this kind of living, with outdoor classrooms giving the children a school so ingrained in their daily lives. One of the intentions by MASS was to hand over a school that the community would totally relate to and they do this with their unique settings for learning.
