Just two days after updating its policy to allow for more nudity, twitch.tv nudity, Twitch has announced that it's immediately "rolling back the artistic nudity changes. Streaming platform Twitch recently announced a change to its sexual content policies that allowed some forms of fictionalized nudity—such as digital characters, sculptures, or drawings—as long as it was properly labeled. Earlier this month, a new Twitch trend kicked off a firestorm of discourse and angry men yelling about women. Some women were streaming themselves using certain camera angles to appear topless. In response, Twitch stepped in on December 13 and updated its sexual content policies , hoping to streamline some confusion and keep correctly labeled adult content off the homepage, but still on the site. It also officially allowed digital and fictionalized nudity.

Author: Angela Hession. We are updating the Attire portion of our Community Guidelines to prohibit implied nudity while streaming on Twitch. This update is in response to a recent meta on Twitch in which streamers use black censor bars or other items to block their bodies or clothing, or position the camera frame such that the viewer is led to believe that the streamer is fully or partially nude. While most streamers have labeled this content appropriately with the Sexual Themes label and are wearing clothing behind the object or outside the camera frame, for many users, the thumbnails of this content can be disruptive to their experience on Twitch. This update goes into effect today. For those areas of the body where coverage is required, the coverage must be fully opaque; sheer or partially see-through clothing does not constitute coverage. Note also, that streamers must appropriately categorize their content. While at times, we simply reclassify the stream into the appropriate category, repeated failure to appropriately classify a stream will lead to an enforcement action. Our goal, with this and other recent changes, is to make Twitch a safe and welcoming place for all of the communities that call it home, improve the clarity of our policies, and ensure that people have the experience they expect when spending time on Twitch. We are currently working on the ability to blur thumbnails for content labeled using the Sexual Themes label, plus user settings that will allow a user to filter their Twitch viewing experience based upon their preferences for content labeled with Content Classification Labels CCL.
I apologize for the confusion that this update has caused.
Author: Angela Hession. We have received consistent feedback from streamers that our current policies around sexual content are confusing and that it can be difficult to know how their content will be interpreted based on these policies. We want streamers to feel confident they understand our rules and viewers to feel confident they will get the experience they expect. To accomplish this we are making two changes, effective today:. To be effective, policies need to be easy to understand so that a streamer knows what is allowed on the site and what is not allowed. Part of the confusion comes from the fact that there are currently two separate policies in the Community Guidelines that address sexual content. There is also an additional section in the Content Classification Guidelines that describes when a streamer needs to label their content as including Sexual Themes.
However, while content that does not violate our Community Guidelines is allowed on Twitch, not all content or topics are appropriate for everyone, including younger viewers. In those cases, we require that you mark your stream with a content classification label. Content classification labels help viewers make informed choices about the content they watch, and also help streamers attract viewers who are more likely to be a good fit for their community. These labels also help brands make better choices about the content they want to advertise next to. Content classification labels must be applied according to these guidelines. Streamers whose content meets these guidelines but who fail to apply a label, or apply the incorrect label, will receive a warning, and the correct label will be applied to their stream. Repeated violations will result in the relevant label being locked on for the channel for a set duration of time but will not result in a suspension. Generally a label is needed only when the behavior is prolonged. Where indicated below, content that lasts longer than one minute should be considered prolonged. If a streamer plays a game with an ESRB rating of Mature , their stream will automatically be labeled.

Author: Dan Clancy. On Wednesday, we updated our Sexual Content Policy. Our primary goal in making these updates was to make our guidelines easier to understand and enforce. Part of this update included changes to how we treat fictionalized nudity. For years, through UserVoice and in conversations, we heard from artists that our content policies were limiting. In making this update, we were trying to be responsive to these requests and allow the thriving artist community on Twitch to utilize the human form in their art. First, we want to make clear that some streamers, in response to this update, created content that was in violation of our new policy. However, there also was a great deal of new content that was allowed under the updated policy. Much of the content created has been met with community concern.
