As Dragon Ball characters continue to grow stronger, one means to acquire substantial power very quickly is the process of fusion. Fusion allows two fighters to combine their strength into a new warrior, trunks and future trunks, either through a dance, earrings, or other means.

The manga volume that it is made up of is " Enter Trunks ". This small saga contains eight episodes and is placed between the Garlic Jr. Saga and the Androids Saga. This saga aired in in Japan, and in in the U. Daizenshuu 2 lists the Trunks Saga as being part of the Frieza Saga and not as its own saga, while many games treat it as part of the Androids Saga.

Trunks and future trunks

Goku's death, being the result of natural causes, means that he can no longer be revived with the Dragon Balls. He decides to train Trunks, the adolescent son of Vegeta and Bulma , who struggles to become a Super Saiyan. The two confront the Androids terrorizing an amusement park, only to be brutally defeated. Gohan loses his arm in the battle, and uses the last remaining Senzu bean to heal Trunks. After recovering from his injuries, Gohan continues to train Trunks. Soon afterwards, the Androids attack another city. Trunks begs Gohan to join him, but Gohan pretends to let the former come with him before he knocks out Trunks, fearing that if he dies in battle, the Earth would have no more defenders. Gohan challenges the Androids alone, but Gohan's lack of an arm and the Androids' superior stamina puts the former at a severe disadvantage, and is eventually killed. Alerted by Gohan's ki disappearing, Trunks awakens and heads into the city only to find Gohan's corpse lying in the ground.

Trunks is also known for his use of a longsword that he keeps in a scabbard mounted across his back.

Future Trunks made waves and impactful acts throughout his first introduction back in Dragon Ball Z , and remains to this day many peoples' favorite character. Nevertheless, Future Trunks doesn't stay long, and soon in the Majin Buu Saga we are introduced to Present Trunks, a younger more brash personality with a better life and family. However, many are willing to debate and argue that Future Trunks has a much better character arc and usefulness to the plot as opposed to Present Trunks. Is this true though? Present Trunks as a character is not particularly disliked, and certainly not hated or disregarded as a useless character.

Kid Trunks and Goten prominently take advantage of the fusion dance to become Gotenks. Kid Trunks even achieves Super Saiyan 3 status while in this fused state. Death is sadly a common event in Dragon Ball, but fortunately the titular orbs are able to bring characters back from the afterlife under the right circumstances.
