Truman Boot Company is an Oregon-based brand founded in Pennsylvania by Vince Romano, who named the company after the border collie that adorns all their shoeboxes to this day. This very robust boot only gets better with age, plus Truman one of the few companies still making all their footwear in the USA. Truman currently offers three different lasts , meaning three shapes the boots are built on, and this boot is on their 79 last. A meaty boot with a structured toe, it comes with rawhide laces and a chunky Commando sole to add to the rugged aesthetic. To sum up: the leather is thick, the sole is heavy, and these are just a pair of boots you just want to immediately take outside and abuse. In a good way.

I wanted a standard rugged pair of black Chromexcel cap toe boots and these fit the bill perfectly with that beautiful degree double stitchdown construction and lug commando sole. There are 8 total antique brass eyelets on this pair, including 5 standard eyelets and 3 speed hooks. This particular pair of boots has the smooth-out facing outward, and is unlined, so you can feel the roughout side facing inward. This is exemplified further by looking at the interior of the boot, where you can see the roughout is not tanned or dyed black, retaining its natural color. These are black boots so I wear them best with dark blue denim, black denim, gray, green, or burgundy trousers. The only pants I avoid with these boots are light khaki and light blue denim. Treatment is easy for black Chromexcel, as you have a number of options available.
