By Hshshumen, December 7, in Auris Club. I just bought Toyota Auris 1,3 Petrol for my wife, but it turns out that the car has some problems. My mechanic said it should be one of the O2 sensors and most probably the one after the Catalyc Converter. I bought that sensor from Toyota and he changed it, but after around 40 miles the check engine light was on again. After that I bought the O2 sensor again from Toyota and the same thing happen. After miles the check engine light was on again. The second problem is that the car is consuming a lot of engine oil and there is no leakage, no smoke from the exhaust and the car is running perfect.

Hi all, previous owner had a decat pipe on my corolla tsport which I've just replaced because I didn't want the hassle of emissions failure come MOT time. I replaced with a whole new Klarius mid section, which includes the catalytic converter and center silencer. I also replaced both o2 sensors with Denso items. My code reader shows P again. I work for a fire and rescue authority and we have a workshop with emissions tester so just yesterday I asked if they could test it for me to make sure it was all working as it should. They had to get the cat hot, but it went through and would've passed an MOT. Then I get this code again today and I'm now stumped. Toyota catalytic converter is very good in term of lowering emission. I never have any good luck with aftermarket Catalytic converter with modern hybrid toyota. The emision treshold for Toyota hybrid is much lower than regular cars and there is a reason why the original cat is so much more expensive. It is because it contains much higher catalyst quantity and quality. The only way to solve P is installing original catalytic converter. Otherwise, we will waste too much money on garbage aftermarket metal pipes. The O2 sensors are rarely failed and P is The O2 sensor code is very specific and different.

It is because it contains much higher catalyst quantity and quality, toyota po420. The O2 sensors made no difference and confirmed the fault code - the catalytic convertor is not working within set parameters.

Tried lacquer thinner, Cataclean, Lucas, etc - sometimes the light goes out for a day, but inevitably comes right back on. Do you think I should try changing the oxygen sensors first?

This page is meant to help you troubleshoot the Toyota 4Runner P trouble code. A failing oxygen sensor or bad catalytic converter are the most common causes of P Catalyst system efficiency is the percentage of these chemicals removed from the exhaust system. Oxygen sensors measure these pollutants. When the readings from the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors show similar readings not enough pollutants expelled from the exhaust , your vehicle will throw the service engine soon light P

Use an ODB2 check engine light reader to read the error codes that are causing your check engine light CEL to illuminate. Error codes that start with P, refer to a problem with the catalytic converter cat. The way the vehicle determines that the catalytic converter is working okay is by measuring the oxygen content of the exhaust both upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter.

I don't know what spark plugs were used the but the guy I bought the truck from did things right. You can post now and register later. Make sure they give you a sticker which shows the recalibration was performed. Make sure your PCV is in good working order and that you don't have a leaking valve cover gasket. I understand what you're saying about aftermarket catalytic converters, but I had it tested at my works workshop and it passed, although they did have to get it hot. Anyway, assuming it is v8, I looked it up and you're right. With your specifically, downstream left b1? The O2 sensors made no difference and confirmed the fault code - the catalytic convertor is not working within set parameters. Tried lacquer thinner, Cataclean, Lucas, etc - sometimes the light goes out for a day, but inevitably comes right back on. The only proviso may be surrounding the work you have had done, and whether this can be seen to have been a contributory factor towards the issues. AisinW Posted July 3, My code reader shows P again. P is a well-recognized error code within the automotive industry, notorious for its persistence. Luckily, this article is designed to guide you through understanding the implications of this error code, exploring its possible causes, and navigating potential fixes.

Meaning cat is bad. Just changing the O2 sensors, when they could be tested, seems a waste of money.
 More sharing options You should be able to view into the exhaust right before the cat and see if the "honeycomb mesh" substrate is plugged up. Once you have engine rebuild or exchanged plus all other parts you already replaced you will enjoy a used car that is like new. Hi driver I also have a spacer on the rear O2 sensor. The ECU periodically send rich-lean-rich-lean mixtures intentionally to test if anyone cheat the O2 sensors. First I put 0W20 as recommended from Toyota and now I changed it again with 5w30 to check if there will be any difference. Strange even though fault was pointing g at bottom one even when new. You put the sticker on the car somewhere underside of hood or perhaps in the door jamb.
