The Promise is a British television serial in four episodes written and directed by Peter Kosminsky , with music by Debbie Wiseman. It premiered on Channel 4 on 6 February Erin Matthews is a British teenager about to start her gap year. Alan Bleasdale has always been the master of this format but, with 'The Promise', Peter Kosminsky joins him at the top. All 8hrs is used to maximum effect. Around this Kosminsky has drawn a gripping storyline of the granddaughter of a soldier in the British Protectorate searching out the mystery of her grandfathers story.

Erin hardly knows him, but whilst helping her mother to clear out his flat she finds a diary of his time in the 6th Airborne Division in British Mandate Palestine after the Second World War.

Erin hardly knows him, but whilst helping her mother to clear out his flat she finds a diary of his time in the 6th Airborne Division in British Mandate Palestine after the Second World War. The early scene of the flat in Leeds was created in an Israeli studio. Later, Erin is back in Caesarea, gathering her things. However, a lot of teenagers are rather like her, sadly. Some of the reviewers obviously based their rating on their personal political stance. Incidentally her epilepsy almost never features in the story and serves no purpose.
