The callisto protocol dlc ending
It may have been one of the biggest horror game releases in recent memory, but The Callisto Protocol has continued to run into trouble since its lackluster December release. Ultimately, Callisto fell short of many fans of Dead Space who expected a proper spiritual successor. Although Striking Distance has supported the title in the months since its release, the recent Final Transmission DLC's ending could be a sign that the studio is moving on. Taking place after the cliffhanger ending of The Callisto Protocol saw protagonist Jacob implied to have nobly sacrificed himself, Final Transmission seemed to be set up as a proper conclusion that could even potentially address some of the criticisms the game has received. Under the orders of Dr. Caitlyn Mahler, Jacob heads to a transport ship to escape after he recovers data drives that incriminate the nefarious Commonality of the main game's story. Noticing the layout of Black Iron changing as he retreads it, the player sees Jacob appear to become mentally unstable before he is forced to take down a biophage-infected Mahler near his exit. He somehow escapes on the ship he initially crashed into Callisto on, it would seem, but it turns out to be a huge cliche. Right as players may rejoice at an uncannily happy ending for Callisto Protocol 's bleak tone, the truth is exposed as the entire DLC is revealed to have been a dying dream of Jacob's broken body. Hooked up to a gruesome life support setup with his partially eviscerated body lacking all limbs, Mahler has been extracting data through Jacob's CORE link to the surviving Dani.
Mahler's infected corpse is revived as a biophage, which Jacob is forced to fight and kill. Striking Distance Studios could do so much to expand the established lore and world that it has built.
Proceed at your own risk. In both base games, the protagonists conclude their stories against seemingly impossible odds. The credits roll as players are left to assume that these characters have sacrificed themselves. Players of the base game last see Jacob getting attacked by Ferris. Dead Space 3 similarly ends with Isaac and Carver saving Ellie and sacrificing themselves. Mahler transmits data from his implant. Sadly, the DLC is but a dying dream.
Nat Smith. Published: Dec 5, Your journey through Black Iron prison has been hampered by setback after setback, but once you finally claw your way out of the depths, the plot is like a runaway train. As Dani slowly succumbs to the biophage in The Callisto Protocol ending, Jacob rushes to find some kind of cure. His only hope lies with the mysterious Dr.

Now that the hour exclusivity window for PS4 and PS5 users has ended, more players are getting their hands on the new slab of content for The Callisto Protocol. The gameplay is reviewing from 'whatever' to 'fine', though it's the ending that has everyone coming together in a collective 'what the hell was that'? Naturally, we're going to be discussing some spoilers from here on out, so take this as your chance to peace out if you want to experience that all first. Righto, once you finish fighting a rather gruesome form of Dr. Caitlyn Mahler, you can go through an extended cutscene sequence if you get the secret ending. Fans are still trying to piece together what it all means, though the more finite points are that the whole DLC was a hallucination and that the protagonist people had hoped to see live is dead. Same boring combat loop, no music for most of it, extremely predictable story twist, two actual cutscenes, and a horrible ending that felt like IP abandonment.

All trademarks are property of their respective owners in the US and other countries. The follow-up to Dead Space 3 was never released. The DLC not only shows that the sync happens as a result of that final transmission, but also that Dani was given much more information than simply Jacob's thoughts. Ok so only for the dlc then. Noticing the layout of Black Iron changing as he retreads it, the player sees Jacob appear to become mentally unstable before he is forced to take down a biophage-infected Mahler near his exit. I enjoyed the DLC because it has new areas, a new enemy type and the hammer weapon. He continues; "I don't want to give anything away, but we've made a few bold choices in the story that I hope the community will really find satisfying. Many did not expect a strong finale, even from this DLC, but it wraps up The Callisto Protocol as a said-and-done project instead of something with room for growth. Although Striking Distance has supported the title in the months since its release, the recent Final Transmission DLC's ending could be a sign that the studio is moving on. Under the orders of Dr. UK Edition. These hallucinations cast doubt on the final conversation between the protagonists and the moons.

He had been mortally wounded after helping Dani escape, with Mahler recovering his body and keeping him on life support so that she can use his implant's connection with Dani's to transmit all of her evidence and research data. Rinraiden 8 months ago 24 The problem with Callisto Protocol was that it was suppose to be the game that filed the void left by the Dead Space games. Him safely escaping black iron prison wouldn't fit his character. It was a sad ending for sure but imo it fits well to the main game, for 2 main reasons. Mahler's infected corpse is revived as a biophage, which Jacob is forced to fight and kill. Change language. BlackNine 8 months ago 25 It's hard to imagine a sequel; Putting "Final" in the DLC title, having Jacob die, then ending on a fourth-wall-breaking comedic ending all feel like the developers put a complete cap on TCP being anything more than a standalone game. That final episode isn't a total waste of time, there are some cool moments in it but overall it did add next to nothing. Some areas are beautiful and atmospheric.
