To make a house that will shield you from monsters, all you need are blocks of any kind. Note that blocks and walls are two different things. Walls will place walls behind you, which allow you to hang torches, paintings, and other wall decorations. Blocks are the squares that make up the terrain in Terraria, and you can pick them up using your Pickaxe. You can do this easily by building a small wall of blocks, getting rid of three of them in the middle, and then placing the door in the newly created hole. Then you can use your Hammer on the Platform to turn them into stairs facing either directions.

Once unlocked, it can be freed with a pickaxe or drill , and placed again by the player like any other door. Lihzahrd Doors can also be crafted, but their crafting station can only be obtained after opening the initial door, and the ingredients require the Picksaw or better to mine, which is dropped by Golem. Destroying the blocks either above or below a locked Lihzahrd Door does not destroy it. Apart from the standard doors listed here, there also exist Trap Doors and Tall Gates , which behave similarly. Every block in the game can also be used like a Switch -toggled door via Actuators.

Doors are a simple but essential part of your Terraria adventure. There are 25 types of doors in Terraria, with the majority of these being craftable. Despite being easy to obtain and use, doors present a couple of uses that are crucial to success in Terraria. Doors are also fantastic decoration items and, due to the amount of variety of door types in Terraria, there is a door for every style of build. Players, town NPCs, and some enemies can interact with doors — whether they are opening or closing them, or breaking them. This is a feature relatively exclusive to doors, making them quite a unique placeable item in the game.

The Wooden Door is a simple mechanism that can be opened using the right mouse button. To place a door, left click either the upper or lower attachment point. In the picture to the right, this would be just below the bottom of the wooden wall that it's attached to or just above the ground. They are three blocks high and can be used to keep out monsters, make rooms for NPCs to live in, or just for decoration. They can be crafted with 6 Wood at a Work Bench. Doors must have a block below and above them to be placed, and if one of these blocks are removed after placement, the door will be removed along with it. A door won't open if the direction the player is facing while opening the door is blocked by other placeable blocks such as bricks, dirt, chests, anvil, gravestones, etc. You can make a door which cannot be opened by Zombies during a Blood Moon by adding a Wood Platform to the top of the inside of the doorway. This prevents the door from opening for Zombies on the outside, but still allows you to open it as you need.
