This method works best on heavier fabrics like jeans, and is a temporary solution if you happen to get caught with your pants, er, hems down. Turn pants inside out. Start at the seams, applying a piece of tape to the inside of the pant, tape to hem pants, removing the protective paper on the other side of the tape, and securing to the inside hem.

Last week I went to the 'Business Insider 42 Under 42' dinner last week. Hemming tape is a very useful invention. This form of securing a hem uses a double-sided thin, strip of webbing with a heat-activated glue. It comes in a roll of tape and has the ability to stick fabric on both sides. Hemming tape is ideal if you are in a hurry and for emergencies when you need to make a quick repair to hems. Simply measure the spot to hem, put the tape in-between the garment and the hem, and press in place. The heat of the iron and the bonding on the tape do the trick of sealing the hem. No-sew hems! Good quality hemming tape is permanent and is designed to be washed. It is a great alternative to using a needle and thread and will definitely last. Hemming tape is widely available at any fabric shop or haberdashery. Also, check your local supermarket or department store if they have a small sewing section. For online options, try Amazon, or eBay. Avoid using fabric softener for the first application because it will affect the bonding glue, and the tape will not stick as firmly. Most hemming tapes are 1 inch 2.

Optional - If your item has a raw edge, finish the edge with a serger, pinking shears or zig-zag. When you feel confident to apply the tape to your hem, start the process in stages. Hemming tape is widely available at tape to hem pants fabric shop or haberdashery.

If you are hem ming a garment that will need to be adjusted at some point, this may not be the best solution. If you are hem ming a garment that may need to be adjusted at some point, this may not be the best way to do it. Cut the hem of the skirt.

Be careful with synthetic materials as they are prone to melt. If you can't get hemming tape then the next best option is a simple hand stitch. Iron and voila! Press down with the iron firmly. Turn them inside out and unfold the hem second photo. If you are an absolute beginner at sewing, skip straight to the running stitch section of the article. It is placed under the hem and ironed to activate the glue. You can get the one I use here on Amazon Wundaweb. Fold the tea-towel in half and place over the hem. Make sure none is stitcking out.
