Yoshi [a] is a fictional dinosaur who appears in video games published by Nintendo. Throughout the mainline Super Mario series, Yoshi typically serves as Mario's trusted steed.
There's a total of 6 worlds in Yoshi's Island, with each one having a general theme. Each world has 8 levels, an extra level, and a mini-game. The extra level and a mini-game are unlocked when a player gets points in each level of a world. World 1 is the simplest of all the worlds. Chomps falling from the sky are found in this world, as well as the ever familiar Donut Lifts and Fuzzies that cause Yoshi to become Dizzy. The sub-castle is guarded by Burt the Bashful, and the last castle is guarded by Salvo the Slime. World 1 also has 1 extra level.

Yoshies make their very first appearance in Super Mario World. Here, each have a different power, as for Red Yoshis being able to shoot fireballs, Blue Yoshis being able to fly when it has a Koopa Shell in its mouth, and Yellow Yoshis being able to Ground Pound. Here they live in Dinosaur Land where the Koopalings and Bowser stole their eggs. At the end of the game the Yoshis have a big "Thank You! This game has all new Yoshis and all new enemies too, along with the return of Shy Guys that had not returned since Super Mario Bros. Here they also bring out some new enemies, Kamek , and Baby Bowser. In the game the Yoshis face lots of enemies and allies.

The character of Yoshi was specifically created by Shigefumi Hino , a graphics designer, with the help of Takashi Tezuka.
