Every day, the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars appear to rise in the east and set in the west. It spins on its axis from west to east approximately every 24 hours. To us, it appears as if everything in the sky is moving from east to west. During summer in the northern hemisphere, the Sun rises north of east and sets north of west. It is high in the sky at noon. During winter in the northern hemisphere, sunrise and sunset appear farther south along the horizon. The winter-time Sun is lower in the sky throughout the day.
