Sun conure vs green cheek conure
Both sun conures Aratinga solstitialis and green-cheeked conures Pyrrhura molinae have quite a bit in common. Steve Garvin, who has bred Pyrrhura conures for 30 years, pointed out that one of the obvious differences between the species is color. But thanks to Mr. Garvin and other conure breeders, there are green-cheeked conures sporting bright yellow and orange, the colors of a sun conure that pet owners find so attractive. The big difference between sun and green-cheeked conures is the volume of their vocalizations and calls. How big is that difference? Green cheeks are way more suited for apartment life because of volume. This is a big difference. With both species, early behavioral training to curtail screaming for attention is important. Reward your bird for being quiet by giving him attention, verbal praise and treats. Provide him with plenty of toys and activities in the cage so that he learns to play quietly and happily alone at times. When your conure calls to you, answer in a whisper to reinforce that a soft voice is the level you are looking for. Learn to use a contact call to reassure your bird that you are within hearing, even though you are not in the same room. Sun conures belong to the Aratinga genus, and green-cheeked conures are in the genus Pyrrhura. Sun conures, jenday conures and gold-capped conures are in the Aratinga genus, and all are loud as well as attractive.
I'm excited! I still think of the two, the Sun is the better choice assuming you can live with the noise. Perhaps go on youtube and search for a video of a sun screaming and see what you think of the noise level.

A conure is a great bird to own, providing years of enjoyment and companionship. These long-lived birds are beautiful to look at and quite the clown. There are so many conures available in the pet trade that it can be challenging to decide which conure is right for you. The Sun Conure is a striking bird with bright orange and yellow feathers compared to the green and red coloration of the Green Cheek Conure. Both birds require a similar diet rich in seeds, fruits, and vegetables and require a similar-sized cage.

I basically want a conure that would be most likely to get along with my quaker, and is the most snuggly. Of course, there are exceptions in both species, either way too. From a breeder, a store, a fair or a sanctuary? I'd have one in a heartbeat, but the noise is just too much for me and my husband! Young sun conures sport more green than older ones, but both male and female mature sun conures are similar in appearance, as are both male and female green-cheeked conures. Pyrrhura's are a better option, but keep in mind that all birds can be noisy. What's new New posts. But before I buy it I want to make sure which breed is better? Blueridge New member. I say go for the GCC, or any of the pyrrhura ones!
