Hello Subnauts! We want to thank you all for your support here in reporting bugs, and providing feedback on both Subnautica and Below Zero, during the course of Early Access and beyond. Your support remains, as always, incredibly important and valuable to us, and with that in mind, we would like to invite you to continue to interact with us and the wider community on some of our more active platforms, especially our official Discord. All of the content on the forums will remain available in read-only mode, but it will no longer be possible to create new topics or posts as of June 21st We hope to welcome you all on our Discord and other community platforms very soon. Keep diving, Unknown Worlds Team. May in Subnautica General Discussion. I'm not sure I fully understand the concept of the scanner room. I thought, a long time ago, that it was a map room which would allow you, after some time, to make a map of the whole world, and maybe then load it up on your PDA so you always know where you are so basically like any map in any game. But based on what I've read in the forums, it seems I was wrong and that it's actual purpose is too scan a fraction of the terrain, restricted to a limited space around the scanner room itself, in order to help the player locate ressources.
Remove stuff from inside that piece or build a new, empty piece nearby.
The Scanner Room is a Seabase module. It is constructed with the Habitat Builder and allows the player to generate a 3D map of the surrounding Biome , scan for resources, and conduct scouting via controllable Camera Drones. The player must find three Fragments to unlock the Scanner Room's blueprint. If a Scanner Room is constructed in an unpowered Seabase, it will not function. The Scanner Room always requires power to display its holographic map, but it does not drain base power unless it is scanning or fabricating upgrades. The Scanner Room in construction terms functions like a I Compartment : while it is circular in form, only two sides are connectors. These are indicated by rectangular blanking plates which can be used to help orient it: it is often necessary to use the rotate function when building one to get it at the proper angle.

Any resources that do not normally appear on the ground in single form, such as Titanium or Silver Ore , will be Large Resource Deposits , unless the player has manually dropped some of this resource on the ground within the scanner's range. But this could make things simpler if I could get it to work as intended. The scanner provides no indication of which type a particular "contact" is in the case of materials like Quartz or Lithium that can be found in both single and Large Deposit states. The scanner doesn't show me anything but beacons, my first base, and my Seamoth. The scan will continue and continue drawing power until it is either manually deactivated or the base runs out of power. I can't seem to manipulate the scanner room at all. You'll have some difficulty getting it to work without an established base to power it, at least this early on, but it may help cut down on a bit of resource-searching time once you get it periodically operational - you'll be relying almost exclusively on solar power. I built one at the entrance to the inactive lava zone so I could send drones in to explore without the risk to myself. Drones can be controlled from infinite range, but starting at around m their view will become increasingly full of static, becoming completely blank at around m. It's a glorious waste of time. Why on earth would you instead invest in range upgrades, extended drone piloting times, and a significant commute in between to actually get there to do the mining? And have an autopilot return-to-base function.
