This is a van that you really can take offroad to get to that special spot away from it all, and then stay off-grid for an extended time in comfort. Two things are needed for this to be possible — plenty of power and plenty of water. This Spinifex NomadiX Premier has these in bulk. Need I say more. Spinifex Caravans has been around for about 16 years and is based in south-east Queensland where it manufactures its vans from the ground up. Customers fly in from as far away as Perth to visit the factory where they will spend the best part of a day going through all the design features of their particular van. There are some starting layouts, but each customer will have different needs, and these are incorporated at the design stage — the brochure even has scale drawings with internal layout features you can cut out and move around the layout diagram before you even get to the factory. A simple idea, but really useful for the customer. Spinifex have a good range of quality assurance processes that ensure the utmost quality of their vans. Once the design has been agreed on by the customer, the van is built onsite from the chassis up — this includes jigs to ensure that each chassis is manufactured to exacting precision. They are built from grade Australian BlueScope steel and are then hot dipped galvanised. Supporting the strong chassis is Cruisemaster XT independent Airbag Suspension with twin heavy duty shock absorbers and level 4 air control.
The left hand side is where the main entry spinifex caravans reviews is located forward of the wheels in this configuration. A 48V system is also more efficient, spinifex caravans reviews, so there is less power loss over a similar length of cable compared to 12V. Although it might be argued that the kitchen is perhaps a little short on storage space, in reality for a few days away on the open road, I think there is plenty.
Innovation in the caravan realm is exciting, and the unveiling of Spinifex's brand new 48V Safiery electronics system is no exception. Back in the early nineties, there was a song by German dance group Snap! When I found out I was reviewing the new Nomadix Premier from Spinifex Caravans that featured its brand new 48V Safiery electronics system, I couldn't get that song out of my head — luckily for me I only found out a couple of days before the review. During the course of the review, while crawling around underneath or making my way through the interior, I often found myself humming that familiar tune. I have to admit, apart from having heard a few whispers at Best Aussie Vans in November about these new 48V caravans that were doing away with gas for heating and cooking, I hadn't had any hands on experience with one yet. Fortunately for me, when the time came, the team from Spinifex organised Ryan from Safiery to walk me through the 48V system that had been fitted to the latest Nomadix Premier to roll off the Spinifex production line. And when I say just roll off, I mean it.
The all-electric Electrex lives up to its name — there is no gas and a massive power supply which gives this offroader remarkable self-sufficiency. Spinifex Caravans is one of the big guns to come out of Queensland, producing serious, extreme offroad, all terrain caravans that are custom built in the true sense of the word. The Electrex Premier is a gasless van. While other entrants make the same claim, the Spinifex has no gas fitted whatsoever — the barbecue is electric, water is heated by diesel. The Spinifex is an extreme offroad, all terrain caravan designed to go off-grid and stay there almost indefinitely. There is no gas fitted so the Electrex is true to its name. This system has enough solar-generated power to run domestic appliances effectively for days. So out in the bush in the middle of summer you can sleep with the air conditioning running all night, wake up in the morning, flick on the kettle and pop some bread in the toaster — these creature comforts of home are not a problem for the Spinifex. The Pulse electric Weber barbecue and induction cooktops both inside and outside take care of the cooking requirements and diesel is used for heating and hot water. Spinifex is not a cookie-cutter manufacturer by any stretch.

We all dream of it. The thrill of the open road. Travelling like a nomad through the wide horizons, the sizzle of summer, the colour of autumn, the brisk embrace of winter, and the vibrant freshness that is spring. The trouble is finding the right van to take you on all those adventures. Getting out and about in the great outdoors and rumbling along a bush track requires a sturdy chassis and first-rate suspension. This grade steel, according to BlueScope, has excellent weldability and formability. Supporting the chassis as it rolls on and offroad is Cruisemaster XT independent airbag suspension with twin heavy-duty shock absorbers. Also featured around the outside was ample exterior tunnel storage, a sturdy rear bumper sporting a twin spare wheel carrier, and up front, the generous A-frame has protective steel mesh. Then there are the details underneath — everything is well protected, and even the A-frame water tap has its own stoneguard.
