BOM says southern Queensland forecast includes rain, hail and strong winds for this week. Wet days, strong winds and even hail are possible across southern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough over central Australia moves east. The trough is linked to a low-pressure system in the Great Australia Bight, which is set to bring wet weather to southern states. BOM forecaster Helen Kirkup said there will be increasing upper levels of instability associated with the system. Residents of the Maranoa and Warrego district are urged to keep an eye on the weather warnings, with the BOM predicting severe weather conditions Wednesday. The Maranoa and Warrego and Southern Downs can expect 30 to 40 millimetres of rain from Wednesday to Thursday — and even more if storms develop. Ms Kirkup said the system will be broad and "anywhere in the south-east" could see rainfall on Thursday and Friday.
