Sophies universe part 7

Well I have finally got round to taking some pictures of the small single colour Sophie I made recently. This is intended for a baby due this month and I hope will be used as a pram blanket. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

I had to have a go myself as soon as I saw it. You can read about my Sophie here. I never did do that follow up post! So when I heard that Dedri was turning the pattern into a book, I had to have a look so I arranged for one to come here to me and boy is it good! The first thing I noticed was the weight of it!

I got through round 12 today. It is bigger than I expected it to be at this point. I have just finished round 37 which is popcorn separated by chain 2 spaces. The Mandala is complete. It measures about 10cm 4 in bigger than it should at this point -- I really crochet loosely. If I want to give her the blanket in person for her birthday in early December, I really need to finish her blanket by mid-November. I am almost done with the baby blanket size square blanket, I am on round 59 of 61 and I will add a picture tomorrow when I am done with that. Michele E. I really like how she put the sc row of contrasting color on either side. I ordered some more of the purples just to be sure I have enough. On the original pattern, Dedri has stitches before starting the butterflies, compared to my The pattern has butterflies made with chains that take up 5 stitches, plus 14 dc on either side to space them out. The math works out perfectly if we skip the hidden stitch , but I think that would look odd to have the butterflies crammed right against the corners. So, it works perfectly if we start and end with 13 dc and skip the hidden stitch , and put 13 stitches between butterflies. After finishing row 62, I uncovered a mistake on row 61 -- I put the corner around the wrong popcorn.

I managed to snag one eventually!

Explaining 2 different kinds of sides for each round takes a lot of photos and words, but the rounds are fairly straightforward and should go quickly. I keep being amazed at all the stunning colour combinations you guys are coming up with, and I have a little favour to ask. Before you get to the end of Part 6, could you take your Sophie on a little photo shoot outing? I love seeing pictures of Sophie draped over landmarks or in pretty landscapes. I know I loved seeing Sophie in different South-African settings: draped over a stack of tyres, with Table Mountain in the background; being held by 2 boys at a Sports day; in front of the Union Building in Pretoria. I got to thinking. Share your Scenic Sophies using scenicsophie. See the Information Post.

Special design credit to Chris Simon for allowing me to use a modified version of her Lace Petals flower. For the purposes of this tutorial, I am using Scheepjeswol Cotton 8 available from Deramores and a 3. Please Note: In some of the photos I have photographed the Softfun or Stonewashed XL instead of the Cotton 8 to make it easier for you to see the stitches. Occasionally I will use a different colour in some of the photos for the same reason. In this particular tutorial, this affects Rounds 11 — If you would like to use the invisible join instead of the sl st join at the end of each round, you can find a step-by-step photo tutorial HERE. If you DO decide to use it, make very sure that you understand which stitch to join to and which stitch to start your new round in, otherwise, your mandala is going to come out all wonky! Join to the third ch of the beginning ch 5 or to the top of the standing double crochet with a sl st. You will be skipping all the ch-1 spaces between V-stitches.
