Lord Farquaad was the tyrannical and ruthless ruler of Duloc , who yearned for a "perfect world" free of all things magical. Lord Farquaad wears his signature outfit of mainly red and black. He wears a red hat with white top and red cape to match his red tunic with black sleeves. He also wears red gloves with gold trims, black pants, a black belt with a gold buckle around his waist, and black boots. He has a big chin, a pageboy haircut, and is quite short. Lord Farquaad was the sole ruler of Duloc and strove to make everything in his kingdom completely perfect. However, all the fairytale creatures didn't fit in with his idea of a "perfect world", so he evicted them all from Duloc.

He was the oppressive ruler of a lordship called Duloc and he spent the first part capturing fairytale creatures, so that he could find the magic mirror. Once he did, he asked if Duloc, the place where he ruled, was the perfect kingdom, but as he was not a king, Duloc was not a kingdom, so he tried to marry Princess Fiona to become king. He is very opprobrious, despicable and abhorrent, so he loathes creatures of any kind and sought to relocate the fairytale creatures to Shrek 's swamp.

Lord Farquaad is the main antagonist in the DreamWorks film, Shrek. He was the ruler of the kingdom of DuLoc and a man seeking "a perfect bride for a perfect ruler". He is voiced by John Lithgow in most appearances, and by various actors in the musical tour. Like most of the characters in the film, he doesn't appear in William Steig 's picture book of the same name. Lord Farquaad is an evil tyrannical dictator who doesn't care about anyone but himself. However, despite being evil, he didn't see himself as a monster and when this was brought up to him by Gingy, he instantly dismissed it and even went as far to call him and the rest of fairytale creatures as monsters, which makes him completely xenophobic, contemptuous, delusional and narcissistic. Farquaad also suffered from a Napoleon Complex and felt the need to overcompensate for his comical stature by being domineering and controlling.
