Shady mile bourbon review
Now, this review has been a long time in the making. A couple of months ago Shady Mile Bourbon asked me to review their two bourbon releases. I said, "Sure, I'd be happy to" and then life got in the way. I finally got to where I could drink again and what do you know, shady mile bourbon review, it is Bourbon Heritage Month.
Shady Mile is said to be made sourced from the tenth oldest distillery in the state of Kentucky, and named after a point in the country roads where bootleggers met to conduct business and have a sip of whiskey. This could be from the age, as it does not appear to be refined. The nose starts with sweet corn up front then fades to notes of coffee cake, wheat bread, vanilla, red berries, granola, and tobacco. The palate is rather nutty and tannic with mellow notes of brown sugar, cereal, angel food cake, corn bread, and some hints of citrus fruits. The finish is long and lingering together with fading fruitiness, with notes of almonds and tobacco.

The company has two main bourbons, with one focusing on wheat and the other rye as the secondary grain in its mashbill. Beyond this flowery display, Shady Mile Straight Bourbon is a bit lacking. Palate: Cherry is back along with notes of honey, caramel and vanilla. The mouthfeel is faintly woody and incorporates a medical note of latex bandages; again, the immaturity of this is evident in the near total lack of flavor, shady mile bourbon review, and the underdevelopment of the few elements this does have.

Sweet vanilla Cream puff Light sweet cake Marshmallow Rye spice Hint of grain Mostly sweet with a nice balance of spice. The company has two main bourbons, with one focusing on wheat and the other rye as the secondary grain in its mashbill. Shady Mile High Rye Bourbon starts off on a lighter note with youthful scents leading the way. The midpoint brings with it a nice balance of sweetness and spice providing some much needed liveliness to this bourbon. The whiskey ends with a pop of rye spice that mingles with a dab of sweetness and more traditional lighter notes of new oak and leather. While the sip has its moments, notably at the midpoint, it's youthful overall and I'd be curious to revisit it after it had a few more years in barrels under its belt.

According to their website, Shady Mile Bourbon is said to be produced in Owensboro Kentucky at the 10th oldest distillery in Kentucky. It turns out, there is only one distillery that fits that description. The Shady Mile wheated and high rye bourbons have very similar mash bills. The only difference between them being whether rye or wheat is used as the secondary grain. The distillate is then barreled at proof. Both bourbons are bottled at 90 proof. Overall, there are fairly mild but pleasant flavors, with some sweetness that lingers to the very end. Maybe it is the tea talking, but for me this would be a great warm weather bourbon.

I might use this to introduce a complete whiskey novice to the style, so milquetoast is the overall impression.
