A girl is crushed in a garage door and later we see her bloody, twisted body. A few gun shots with some blood once in the head. A bloody knife cut on an arm and lots of hits, kicks and punches. A teen girl hides in a room and hits a young man in the head with a phone receiver when he opens the door, and the young man is attacked by a man with a knife, who slashes him on the arm we see some blood. Not much nudity, but a lot of teenagers scream parent rating, if you will. A teen girl attacks a young woman with a crutch and hits her several times.

Happily for those of us who fall under the elder millennial parenting umbrella, that means we get to enjoy the second coming of some of our favorite things growing up. Like Brendan Fraser. And yes, the famous killer Ghostface who is often played by a different actor each time will return to cause havoc on Sydney and her friends, as well as the newcomers to this film. Up until that point, you had horror films that centered around major killers like Freddy Kreuger, Jason Vorhees and more. They had become typical and cliche, and, in many ways, outdated. Director Wes Craven gave audiences a film that talked about the rules of horror. So in many ways, it rewrote horror. It established the rules of horror and then worked to break them. Horror films have often been about watching a serial killer work his way through a town, killing off the babysitters, boyfriends and bus drivers. In most horror franchises, the killer is the star.
