Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston, Inc. MSRH , is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization sponsored entirely by donations. We do not operate a shelter. Most of our dogs reside in loving foster homes, until they find their perfect forever home. Others spend time in a veterinary clinic for treatment, if needed, and a few may be kept in boarding where they can get training due to social issues. Many of our dogs come to us healthy. Others are sick or injured.

Our Miniature Schnauzer story, began decades ago. Our first Miniature Schnauzer was a little guy named "Romeo" whom we brought into our lives in Needless to say, we were hooked immediately. A year later, we purchased a female Miniature Schnauzer companion for Romeo. From there, our adoration for the breed quickly grew from Schnauzer parents to Schnauzer breeders. We spent countless hours researching the breed standards and developing relationships with Champion kennels. Subsequently, we had our first litter of Miniature Schnauzer puppies approximately 23 yrs ago. Little did we know that this was the beginning of a whole new life for us, and what a beautiful and rewarding journey it has been. If you have ever had a Schnauzer, you know they are simply the best companion a person could ever have. The Mini Schnauzer is an energetic, active, small dog in the terrier group who has clean habits, is neat in size, and makes a delightful companion for both an apartment dweller or someone with a house and yard. Their versatility makes them a perfect companion for a variety of lifestyles including hiking, running, and family pet. Both charming and attractive, the Miniature Schnauzer is perky and devoted to his home and family. In addition, the Miniature Schnauzer is a very intelligent, curious, playful and loyal, good with children, and easy to train. Also, since they are hypoallergenic and non-shedding dogs, they are perfect for people who need allergy free pets.

Schnauzers entering the rescue program may come from abusive surroundings or from owners who have neglected them. Other dogs picked up by animal control officers can also become candidates for rescue. Additionally, some rescue program dogs are donated to the organization by individual owners no longer capable of caring for the animal. Regardless of their backgrounds, all rescued animals are cared for equally and placed in carefully selected foster homes to await adoption. All of our adoptable minis have been given a wellness exam, spayed or neutered, given annual shots, tested for heartworms and treated if necessary, tested and treated for other parasites, provided necessary dental care, and micro chipped. All adopters must complete an application that provides information used by MSRNT to thoroughly screen all prospective owners. This ensures that every dog will go to an appropriate home that meets our adoption criteria. Adopted animals must be kept current on vaccines and heartworm preventive. They must not be chained or tied to trees or fences or kept in garages, ect. They must be housedogs- not exclusive yard dogs.
