Scamp travel trailers, along with other fiberglass egg trailers, are the darlings of the recreational vehicle world. I'm also new to the forum having bought a 13' a couple of weeks ago. Scamp told me it would take about twenty five yards of fabric to recover. I also asked them about using the sponge like material used on the interiors of combines and tractor cabs. He said it can be done and can work well. The material has small holes that help insulate and sound proof. Has anyone done this or have information about this?

Scamp started in the early s in negotiations with Bolar which was another fiberglass travel trailer company at the time. During the first few years of business only the 13 foot Scamp RV was produced. By they had built over trailers. The next year in they developed the larger 16 foot Scamp. And just 3 years later in the 19 foot fifth wheel Scamp was produced. After that most of their changes were in features and floor plans. Today they offer the 13, 16 and 19 foot models with a variety of floor plans and options and operate under Eveland's, Inc. Scamp offers three different travel trailers: the 13 foot, 16 foot and 19 foot 5th wheel. All of them are light weight fiberglass. They're durable, aerodynamic and towable by small cars. This is their smallest option which is catered for singles, couples and small families.

A couple years ago, my wife and I had the opportunity to buy a 13foot Scamp Travel Trailer. We were pulling it with a 4-cylinder Subaru Outback with no problem. Fortunately, the body itself was pretty decent so we really only had to focus most of the attention on the interior and minimal exterior things. When we saved it, it looked as if it was starting to be used as storage for both junk and dirt, haha! The front window had a couple small cracks along the bottom and as we drove it up the freeway, the wind pressure spread those cracks quickly!

The rear window was actually solid glass, which is definitely a no-no on a Scamp. It was clear that the windows would need to be the first thing to get replaced. After tracing the window pattern onto the new plexi, I used the Bosch JS Jigsaw to cut the rough shape out of the plexi. We used the appropriate beading and lockstrip with the Lockstrip Tool and it was very difficult…even with the baby oil trick. But we finally got it in place and gave it a thin clean application of Black RTV Silicone Sealant around the edges just for some added leak protection.
