What begins as a chance encounter for Emily in the present soon turns into an obsessive quest for the truth, with the young woman trying to cobble together her own memories of that fateful trip while not-so-subtly tailing Clive at his favorite Caribbean restaurant. Believing that he is the only one who truly knows what happened to Alison, Emily attempts to strike up an uneasy friendship with Clive, who moved to New York after the incident in search of a fresh start. But for a story with such an ambitious narrative structure to work, the past and the present timelines should be in constant conversation with one another, allowing viewers to draw parallels between what has changed and what has regrettably stayed the same. What begins as a potentially fascinating exploration of unconscious bias, sexual politics, true-crime entertainment, and the media frenzy surrounding missing young white women gets drowned out in a story that bites off more than it can chew, showing that some mysteries in life might be better left unsolved after all. Meanwhile, a group of travelers are waiting for their transport to Indigo Bay, a resort of the Carribean island of Saint X. She dotes on her little 7-year-old sister Claire Kenlee Townsend. When they get to the resort, one of the first people to greet them is Edwin Jayden Elijah , an overly-friendly employee who seems to take a liking to Alison — and the attraction is mutual.

The show intercuts between the tragic tale of two sisters separated by life and time: one in the past, hurtling toward impending death, and the other in the present, struggling to move on from said tragedy. But on their last night before departing, Alison disappears, and authorities find her body a few days later. Bonzie is compelling to watch, eyes racked with inner pain. The fractured structure does the show no favors, either, with scenes haphazardly flitting back and forth between and Alison excoriates her parents about the exploitation inherent to resort life but quickly grows accustomed to the amenities anyway. Claire barely hides her sense of progressive pride at moving to the Caribbean part of New York City, as if fetishizing her Black neighborhood makes up for her role in gentrifying it.
