The stone fruit orchard is a stunning place to take a wander with your family through the pink and white blossom, which smells heavenly.

Today, the Frank L. Harrington Sr. Orchard, is in its newest chapter. In , New England Botanic Garden began a restoration project to replace the trees in collection which had reached the end of their intended lifespans and were facing increased disease pressure. Using scionwood collected from trees in the Davenport Collection, Fedco Trees in Maine helped propagate new saplings which were planted at the Garden in the spring of The project was completed in summer of Mark Richardson, director of horticulture, led the restoration project.

With entry, we received an empty plastic bag each for us to fill to the brim with freshly plucked stone fruits for us to take home. The orchard had a bouncy castle for kids, a food truck, ice cream truck and covered tables for setting and a break from the sun. There were rows and rows of fruit trees. Everything from peaches to nectarines to plums. The orchard opened its gates to the public just the day before, so the peach trees had been well picked, but we did manage to find some. Sadly, a couple of the old peach trees had been broken from people climbing on them just the day before. So if you go, please do not climb on the trees. A lot of the peaches were just out of reach, but they did have step ladders around, however next time we may bring our own. The towering trees provided a lot of shade and some of them were being watered, which helped keep us nice and cool, despite it being a 32 degree day. I loved seeing families setting up picnics between the plum trees which were bursting with fruit and the children running along side the rows of trees. The best part was being able to snack on the fruit as we picked some to take home.

And when we are going somewhere pretty I know to bring my camera along for some cute Perth children photographs for my site. The girls were actually very excited to pick the fruit and fill up the bag, Rosie all to happy to eat off the floor!!! But once we were done I admit I had to nag to get some photos. But for a fairly decent performance I let them have an ice-cream each, followed by an hour of bouncy castle time, a tractor ride and even a hotdog for the ride home. I know it can be very busy with the limited number of weeks it is open, but I am more than happy to help. And you can get some great photographs too — this is one of the most Instagrammable places in Perth! It is not open during weekdays, just during the weekends from 9 am until 4 pm. The custom-designed autumn-themed props including the piano, the car, the phone booth, the caravan, the Insta frames and arches, all covered in flowers amongst the orchard trees are the main drawcard. There are also some cute vintage tea tables amongst the trees, as well as Japanese red Torii gates and a Japanese bridge, plus a couple of nice Instagrammable swings in front of the trees. The orange and red leaves on the trees and on the ground all adds to the atmosphere, it looks so photogenic! Afterwards you can enjoy the food and drinks from the many different food vans there, or bring your own picnic and sit amongst the orchard trees!
