Ret paladin rework

Great, now people will be forced to run 2 paladins instead of one. Such good game design, wow. The last ret paladin rework anyone needed was being forced to now bring 2 of one class, on top of already being forced to bring multiple classes for specific raid buffs. What's next?

By Staff , January 28, in News. Blizzard have announced some big changes coming to Retribution Plaladins with the next content patch, with a rebuild of the talent tree from the ground up! Check out all the details below:. Rebuilding the Retribution talent tree from the ground up means significant changes ahead. However, the talent tree itself will not be available in our first PTR build s , so initial testing on the PTR will be missing important context. Button bloat : Retribution Paladins currently have a fairly large number of abilities, and some of these feel unnecessary and inefficient.

My name is Masky. I am a long-time retribution paladin main who has raided with the spec on and off at a decent level since Legion. Throughout the years I have done my utmost to minmax this spec to bring out the strengths of it. This has been a greatly enjoyable playstyle for me, and as I understand it many others, as it has been extremely rewarding to execute properly. Like many others I was very excited for the retribution paladin rework as the spec had been suffering from some glaring faults for a very long time. I was excited to get a broader defensive toolkit and some much-needed QoL updates. By far the biggest win for retribution after the rework is the defensive capability of the spec. The spec got a huge boost to its passive defensiveness and was given another great defensive cooldown to use. On top of this the spec was given some small QoL changes like a longer divine steed, and divine steed no longer being on the global cooldown. This makes retribution in general feel pretty good play, with a clearly defined weakness in snappy movement and forced displacement of your character. As I am a DPS player, my biggest concern with this rework is the new damage profile that retribution has been given. The spec does damage in 1-minute windows with the major cooldown Avenging Wrath talented into Avenging Wrath: Might over Crusade to make it a 1-minute cooldown and the talent Divine Toll talented into divine resonance , combined with the 30 second cooldowns Execution Sentence and Wake of Ashes. This cooldown window is satisfying to play and quite fun. The problem I have with it is the lack of skill expression. The window is largely focused around performing your Execution Sentence window properly, with the end of Avenging Wrath being more of a filler part of your cooldowns.

The stats that Ret ends up using are defined more by being the "least bad option" than actually having significant positive interactions with any part of our damage toolkit, ret paladin rework. Edited January 28, by ArthasStormrage Low Skill Ceiling, Ret paladin rework Skill Floor Ret is one of the easiest specs in the game to pick up and play at a "not totally awful" level.

Noooo its not negative Its insulting We got a decent rework but got mastery nerfed to the ground so we now have no bis stat. How much AOE can you do at all in std single target raid spec The important factor for me would be It's similar.

Button bloat : Retribution Paladins currently have a fairly large number of abilities, and some of these feel unnecessary and inefficient. Stacking modifiers : There are currently several talents and abilities that provide stacking bonuses, which can make for a confusing and messy playstyle that deals extreme burst damage, but in return leaves your core abilities feeling unsatisfying and under-tuned. We intend to significantly change this.

Great write up. So far my biggest problem is the same you wrote about Retribution Aura. I've never liked "bring the class not the player" because it has the effect of leaving players behind. If you're stuck in a class or spec you don't like, but can only get into a raid or dungeon if you choose that spec or class, the game isn't very fun. As far as reworks go, having the guide writer say "I love everything but this one thing," is super encouraging! Need to also talk about the new instrument of retribution passive giving wings when an ally dies. I don't want to benefit from my friends dying. If Wings of Liberty could end with consecration

This is obviously not an enjoyable playstyle. Yes and no… Mobility is gameplay as it has its uses in pve awell. Find out how your spec's doing! If anything, get rid of Exorcism and Consecration. They help for sure but there is not a single fight in heroic VOTI that requires a certain class to complete the fight. Vanguard of Justice's strength in PVE is sort of hidden. Bodhi-silvermoon June 10, , pm 5. For me, downtime is whaf plagued the spec for years and made it sometimes less fun. Having Blessing of spellwarding on yourself, and still getting feared, sheeped, mind controlled, knocked back, makes no sense, I dont get it. Even if they got the same amount of resets overall. This has resulted in retribution preferring Versatility as a stat. Report post. For example old roll the bones.

Then we are back to Arent they currently suffering with what we did post rework with a bit of over the top dmg? On the other hand, the next tier set for Ret is certainly going to be better than the current one even despite the recent nerfs to it, and Ret will also be able to use the new Legendary weapon, so there are certainly some new systems that could benefit Ret more. What's next? Zeus-kiljaeden March 18, , pm Noooo its not negative I hate it when a spec grows overly static. Ret still struggles with knockback effects more than any other melee, but fortunately nothing that we've seen in Aberrus or Amirdrassil punishes that to the extent that Dathea or Raszageth did in Vault of the Incarnates. In any case, it's clear that Ret is a massive outlier for how much it loses to gain AoE. Overall, the rework did a great job at addressing the issues keeping Retribution from seeing play at higher levels and improving how fun it is to press your buttons, and the increased popularity of the spec is a testament to that. Kalendoril-stormrage March 18, , am 5. Good damage, especially in aoe, and 3 holy power, so you could immediately use a finisher. Masky-tarren-mill June 10, , pm 3. Imagine how mind numbingly boring ret would be without any procs. And no, seraphim is not a maintenance buff.
