The advantage I see is that you have a momentary surge or short which corrects itself you don't loose your aux battery, fridge, etc. Also the compact size, surface mount etc really make them a desirable way to go. But what happens if the short is permanent, ie, cable pinched onto chassis, etc?

A wire fuse will take its rated capacity without blowing for quite a while and will require almost double before it blows quickly. However, as sw1 says, you've got to consider the environment the fuse is required to work in. If you fit a wire fuse, make sure that the cable its connected to is properly sized to take say 1. If you fit CBs the cable can be down sized. CBs will trip at or just above the rated capacity and quickly. Once again guys thanks for your thoughts. I use 8 guage amp wire to the CB then to fuse block.

Circuit breakers are a small but essential part of any power system. They work by interrupting the flow of the current when a fault has been detected. Defined by the NEC as any current in excess of the rated current of equipment or the ampacity of a conductor, overcurrent can occur in the event of short circuits, overloads, and arc and ground faults. These overcurrents can result in fires and damage to equipment, leading to unexpected downtime and schedule delays. Protecting your power systems from overcurrent is crucial to prevent damage and ensure safety.

I also have an anderson plug for my fridge in the tub, but if the fridge shorts internally that has it's own fuse. No point fitting a 20A cable and a 20 A wire fuse, you could easily have a fault current of 30A and the fuse not blow and the wire will get very hot. I'm no expert but it works fine thus far.
