It is designed to create a buffer zone of sorts, allowing the seeder to make turns between passes through the field without damaging seedbed in the headlands. Flip accomplishes this by creating a no-apply zone for the headlands of the field. When you are ready to finish the headlands, you can then switch over to an apply zone.
