One thread mentioned movies that did a good job with the time travel theory and "Primer" was mentioned, so here I am.

Shane Carruth 's "Primer" opens with four techheads addressing envelopes to possible investors; they seek venture capital for a machine they're building in the garage. They're not entirely sure what the machine does, although it certainly does something. Their dialogue is halfway between shop talk and one of those articles in Wired magazine that you never finish.

Aaron accuses Abe of coveting his family and Abe warns Aaron never to return or interfere with their doubles. I do know it takes more than one viewing to catch it all. But gradually, in this antiseptic atmosphere of white shirts, electrical experiments and tweaking mechanics, every human emotion, virtually as every seven deadly sin, except sloth, and beyond, starting with greed, takes them over. Abe and Aaron are working hour days, making money by buying stocks they know will double, but they know what they're doing is dangerous and the results unknown and unknowable; they can't write letters properly, one of them has been bleeding from the ear, and it's all getting terribly out of hand. It doesn't matter if the makers of Primer were forced into this style by their budget as opposed to consciously 'pulling off' this look and feel. Learn more. I liked the film immensely and would recommend it. A movie that has to use verbal exposition to get its intent across to the viewer is already in trouble. Also at the time of the garage scene Abe doesn't yet know that Aaron used the failsafe machine to change the events at the party. This movie does not use 'technobabble', it uses genuine scientific concepts as a basis for its events, and certainly some degree of knowledge of physics is needed for a proper understanding of the film. But the end result is magnificent. It can't resort to a beautiful cast, shiny special effects, gorgeous scenery.

Friends and fledgling entrepreneurs invent a device in their garage which reduces the apparent mass of any object placed inside it, but they discover that it has some highly unexpected capabilities - ones that could enable them to do and to have seemingly anything they want.

Ashok Upadhyaya Laboratory Technician. And then some weird things start to occur. Action Thriller. This is one great movie. It is a rich engagement, one in which the reader and writer engage in a battle of wits. After arguing over the project that the group should tackle next, Aaron and Abe independently pursue work on technology intended to reduce the weight of an object. Storyline Edit. Goofs During numerous takes the director, Shane Carruth , mutters "cut" under his breath. Perhaps it was the fearless choice to stick to its own voice, to avoid watering it down by appealing to the wider audience. If this is "post-modern," give me "pre-modern" any day. Shane Carruth. This film won a major Sundance award, and normally that means I won't like it especially the normally pandering audience award winners but this movie, and first-time filmmaker Shane Carruth, deserves absolutely everything it gets. More from this title. There is no nice take-home message, no all-knowing schemework. Only this isn't even made exciting it's just they do it and that's it.
